Maus, about earlier: Yes you can. Its a technology we've had for a while, that is finally becoming stable. Or, at least thats what PC Magazine says.

Not to mention, thats what steam claims to be able to do. Look all over its FAQ: It keeps bragging about that one ability.

Not to mention...I deleted all my old CS models from the original, so none exhist on my PC anymore, and yet, I still play with them in game. So...I'm running software I don't have.

Did you not read my post? all the models, sprites and sounds are inside a GCF file which can not be opened unless you know c++ or something like that.

Just wait for someone to write a .gcf editor

you can .gcf all you like, it all comes down to the consistency settings in the server.

using the method maus described earlier..
...which is using your cstrike folder located in steam/steamapps/cstrike/...
...i can now use all my custom models and sounds and sprites in game again (phew) as long as mp_consistency is set to 0. If not, it wont allow me to join :/

I believe the ones inside the .gcf file to be the models that it reverts to in the event that it cannot find a particular model inside the steamapps/cstrike/ folder. You have to create the folders that you need inside there though, as there is by default no models, sound, or sprites folder.

If you dont believe me, i'll post some screens.

Having to sit through a 400Mb download so I can play a game I already bought makes me rethink buying the sequel. Ease of customization/ modding it what's kept HL alive 5 years with more current players than the others had players. Period.
It's a simple equation: steam = sux
