Yeah, dont take their posts so seriously, if you feel the need to abbreviate a large term, i dont see why you should do it. After all, who cares if he uses acronyms or not? I can read them fine, and i think theire interesting to a degree so i dont see why people are being negative about them.
Anyways, hopefully the devs will take this idea for the next release. [shameless self promotion]That and all my other ideas which are so very good and balanced and would make this mod so great for everyone in the entire world and galaxy![/shameless self promotion]
I am quite aware of how you employ your acronyms. And for the most part they don't bother me. Just when you repeatedly define them. Also, in writing I was always taught brevity, not sacrificing clarity, is always the best choice, your posts feel very verbose to me.
I feel disciminated agaisnt, my off topic comments are deleted with extreme prejudice, yet this topic has been allowed to go completley off course without any admin alterations....Ohwell, gwahir are you gonna be on SI tommorow?

I apologize if it seems redundant. When I create a new post I assume the reader has not read any of my prior posts, I redefine my abbrevianyms for there sake.

Well, I will say this. Lassoing is already in thankfully, but sadly, as far as I have heard, hot keying groups of marines will not be in till V.2 (hopefully). While I may be a tester, I am not a team-member. So, everything I say could be STC. But don't bet on it for V.1. As a matter of fact, fuggetabout it. But trust Flay that he knows what he's doing coding wise. I have faith that he'll discover the magic formula to hotkeying marines by V.2. To quote my previous post

You'll be surprised at how a marine anticipates your orders and takes matters into his own hands for positionign himself in situations like defending a base or placing mines, or say . . .covering a building teamate. Less precision command is needed than in a general RTS game simply because the I isnt . . A. (AI . . .get it . . .) ahem. But, yes. I would really love to have groupings, but it is probobly a feature for a later version. Hopefully the next one. "

You know, now that I think about it... I'm not sure hotkeys are all that necessary. Two reasons come to mind. 1) Sadly, marines tend to have a short lifespan; this would require constant reassigning, which would be more annoying than helpful. 2) The major thing hotkeys are good for in an RTS is micromanaging. In Warcraft3, if you come up against some hippogryphs you're going to want to quick-select your Raiders and ensnare them (WHY isn't ensnare autocast??). In NS, however, your "units" micromanage themselves. (:
Here's an idea: you have two buttons. The first button selects a single marine; let's say, the marine closest to the Command Center (as you will probably use this button to tell someone to build something). The second button selects *all* your marines; this is used for troop movements and assaults.
Another idea (this was my original idea, from which I worked out the one I just mentioned) would be to have each marine selectable by pressing a number key. The first 10 marines would be 1-0, while the next 9 would be Keypad1-9. Keypad0 would select all marines; as servers would be 32-player or less, you're very unlikely to find teams larger than 19.
eh, only problem with that is some people actually use the key-pad for movement controls and such ...
hey - I know, they're freaks, but they do ...
or hey, they could make the select a marine 1-16 buttons bindable........
or they could just forget all this crazy grouping stuff and realease the mod

i got an idea on this thingie of the squad...... once u make a squad, when somebody moves away from it.... on the hud it should tell ya that ur getting away from the squad.. so newbies would read that and wouldnt split up......
Far too late gwahir, far far too late. Better read this while you can before moleculor sees it, its probably too off topic to exist long. Here I will add something on topic then he can't touch it! I think being able to form squads would be cool, you would lasso the ones you want and press ctrl+1-9 and then whenever you press say 1 it will select that squad wether they are together or not then you can tell them to get somewhere so they will assemble.

Quote (Battousai^^x @ Aug. 09 2002,21:48)

i got an idea on this thingie of the squad...... once u make a squad, when somebody moves away from it.... on the hud it should tell ya that ur getting away from the squad.. so newbies would read that and wouldnt split up......

That's not a bad idea. Some sort of visual indicator of the orientation of your squadmates would be helpful to maintain team cohesion. Have fellow Marine's statistics and direction detectable from within a certain proximity instead of the Binded Squad Idea.

It would seem that the gameplay dynamics has rendered the idea of Squad Lasso and Bind Squad unnecessary. Reason number one makes it a useless feature. I will update the initial post on the outcome of our discussion with the proper quotes.
I think both of your ideas make a lot of sense. A way to quick select all marines sounds like an idea they're probably working on. As for quick selecting individual marines, I could see interesting uses for that as well. Hey, the point is here we can try to slip in little ideas into the NS Developing Team Think Tank (Can you believe it? Mr. Acronym resists from acronizing that last one. Trust me, it pains me so.). You just never know what will emerge. Coil on the other hand is taking an active role in developing NS, as one of the coveted positions of Playtester. Thanks for using your experience to answer my question, much appreciated.
With that said, I think displaying squadmate's statistics and general direction is a good idea. It could compensate for our lack of peripheral vision.
