Irony

Irony is worshipping a game, such as Half-life 2, so much that it makes you run out to buy a new video card JUST for that game so you can run it in a gigantic resolution with all the graphic options on full, only to produce wallpapers in 800x600....

<a href='http://80.239.144.147/images/desktop/image_800_401.jpg' target='_blank'>Example</a>
<a href='http://80.239.144.147/images/desktop/image_800_398.jpg' target='_blank'>Example</a>
<a href='http://80.239.144.147/images/desktop/image_800_383.jpg' target='_blank'>Example</a>

    <span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'>THAT'S THE POINT</span>

Why do they make these frickin awesome wallpapers, for this high end game, at 800x600!!!!! >_<

I only run my PC in resolutions 1280x1048 and above

ARRRRR!!! It's so frustrating they create these wallpapers and don't even release them in several sizes!!!!

    I use 1024x768. Everyone I know uses 1024x768. It's pretty damn common.

I would run higher but most monitors lose their 85Hz flicker-freeness above 1024x768.

back when I got really into making websites for a giggle about 2 years ago I did some checking and supposedly 1024x768 was the most common resolution according to all the polls and logs I checked ~shrug~

Does anyone use 800x600 or know anyone who does anymore? o.O

Yeah. 1024*768 is most common, followed by 800*600, and then whatever comes after 1024*768.

Hmm. I like that res fo4 wallpapers. I use the wallpaper purely as a marker for seperating the screen out and like to have a nice fat border all the way round. Then I have some plain space for icons, Software links to the left, file links to the top and referennce links t the right. At the bottom is Recycle bin and some stuff that will probably go in the recycle bin soon.

This way I can see my pretty <a href='http://www.muppetking.com/files/images/vmax-wallpaper.jpg' target='_blank'>v-max</a> wallpaper and read the text under my icons at the same time. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yeah pretty much.

It just hammers home the fact that I hate people, and I'm a cynical sarcastic ****.

The problem is, if you make a background at a larger size, people can always shrink it easily. But to enlarge it makes it into a pixelated mess...

Indeed, when I want to scan something out of an art-book of a manga, I scan it at the highest resolution possible.

    2500x3500? Yay.
    Overkill? Maybe..
Great for creating your own wallpapers? Oh hell yes.

It's just when I come across a piece of art I'd like to use as a wallpaper and I find out it's only available at resolutions BELOW 1280 that I cry...

Have my current wallpaper. Large, simplistic, weeee.

No, true irony would be if HL2 didn't work on your new graphics card, but it would have on your old one <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
