Are marines really outnumbered?

Errr greater numbers? How is that possible? One player=one marine or one alien right? Unless the game forces the alien team to have 2 more players then the marine team.

    The ronin hit the nail.

Aliens tend to come back faster and have one fighter more in a 'balanced' game.
    Anyway: SUBJECT TO CHANGE!

    So anything gets clear.

When I look at Battousai's avatar and sig I suddenly remember to punish Nemesis Zero by playing Rouroni Kenshin title theme all day

Errr come back faster? How does that work, you have to sit at your corpse for 20 seconds? Perhaps you go into ghost mode? Come back faster indicates a waiting period, sitting seems to boring, ghosting seems too unbalanced.

you r dead until your commander/hive has enough resorce to respawn u
  • KidzeldaKidzelda Join Date: 2002-06-25 Member: 819Members
The marines do it too. But it's faster for the aliens for some reason, and you REALLY don't want to die on the marine team since they have the collective resource pool, and each time you spawn costs RPs.

Umm... don't be too sure about the respwn method, it's still largely STC.

It will however be designed to allow the DMmy aliens a faster re-entry in the game.

when u die, its like dod, u go to spectator mode and after a period of time u respawn, as a marine, dependin on the ammount of phase gates they own...... the phase gate spawns a marine, and it has to cooldown to spawn another one, so after 20 secs of cooldown its rdy to spawn another marine...... if u dont have enough rps u cant respawn.......
i dunno how the alien respawning system works....... so i cant tell u anything.....

Also, the marines have one as a Commander, so they have 1 less, or possibly 2, if the game is unable to make them exactly equal. (ala 14 vs 15, 11 vs 12)
  • Sgt_Bilko1Sgt_Bilko1 Join Date: 2002-02-02 Member: 150Members
A commander should not be considered as a minus one in the sense you are thinking, or at all really. The commander adds a considerable amount of power to the marine side, and it would be impossible for the marines to win without one. You really can't equate the two at all because of how different the role of a commander is as opposed to a marine. A 12 marines vs. 13 aliens game is certainly equal, although that all depends on the RTS style skills of the commander.

will there be a thing to even the teams? there might be 10aliens and 2 marines and no-one wont wanna change or somethink so you might need one

it sounds like if you have a grenade launcher or a mini nuke, you outnumber the aliens by a long shot

    1. lazygamer: what you quoted is at least 3 months old. Much has changed in the world of NS since then.

    2.

Quote

the phase gate spawns a marine

You've confused your buildings. Phase gates allow light speed travel between each other. Infantry portals allow marines to respawn.

    3.

Quote

will there be a thing to even the teams?

Fun factor. Horribly unbalanced games, in terms of team numbers, are no fun whatsoever, for either team. Playing the whole game and not running into anyone on the other team is entirely possible with unbalanced teams, and when that happens, you usually feel really dissapointed. The best part of the game are the intense, even matched battles that can and do happen often.

How exactly does the alien respawn work? (I could list a few speculations here but I decided not too)

You respawn at the hive; it takes approximately 30 seconds (STC), and the hive can spawn one alien at a time. Multiple hives, obviously, can spawn multiple aliens simultaneously. All aliens spawn as a level1.

What I mean is that if the teams are: Marines-12, Aliens-13, and one Marine jumps into Commander, the game is effectively 11 vs 13 troops (not team members). But I'm sure this will be fun, as being outnumbered by Aliens gives the game a sense of... um... suspense?

I'm not sure where you got that quote, but since it's spelled wrong, I don't think you got it from me. ;) If it is from me, it's quite old and not totally relevant anymore.

Oh....I was hoping aliens could hatch from eggs and then attach onto a marines face and impregnate him then claw out of his chest as a snake like animal.....Oh wait wrong game I was thinking the aliens from the move Aliens life cycle makes no since it is way to overcomplicated for evolution to have devised it must have been engineered. Anyways being outnumbered by ravenous aliens is what marines do.

Maybe I should start writing whole sentences in acronyms, so if I quote myself, I can do it easily...

Oh yeah, the topic. I think it's better if the Marines are outnumbered. Makes it more movie-like... well... except for the first Alien, which had a single alien taking out the whole crew... and then in the second one they blew away swarms of 'em...

But this would be more like Aliens, I suppose. Kick-###.
  • LongtoothLongtooth Join Date: 2002-07-02 Member: 863Members
So how exactly do aliens get resources from killing marines? Do they eat thier bodies and absorb thier biomater?
  • VenmochVenmoch Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1093Members
Hmmm Outnumbered.... Damn please tell me I won't have a really sensitive motion sensor (the one in AvP2 gave me the creaps)
  • DruBoDruBo Back In Beige Join Date: 2002-02-06 Member: 172Members, NS1 Playtester
You won't have any motion sensor as a marine. And the Alien one is not really a motion sensor, per se. It's hive sight, i.e. if one alien sees some marines, all the aliens know where they are.

With a good commander that has enough experience in a RTS game I believe even if the humans are out numbered they could still win.
  • TomboTombo Join Date: 2002-05-17 Member: 626Members
I think being out numbered or over powered just means u need alot of team work to pull it off. It makes u feel like ur in a movie...like in starship troopers or something but not...well ya know
