Where To Host Your Avatar

BlueNovemberBlueNovember hax Join Date: 2003-02-28 Member: 14137Members, Constellation

Having problems? Me too
My previous avatar was hosted by the guy who made it, (lots of people are doing this, and it is really bad netiquite, so don't follow my bad example,) but an admin took it off as it was too big. (100kb).

So, anyone want to recommend their free avatar host?

These comanies DO NOT allow the hosting of avatars:
Geocities
Freewebz

And I'll add more as I find them/people post.

If you're wondering what I mean when I say 'don't allow', you can see for yourself. Right-click properties on my avatar (it appears broken,) and paste the target into your browser.

    Bingo.

So why won't they let ppl host it... Sheesh.

(that's still too big - the limit is 22kb, same as for sig images)

I note yours is 21.something. Nice. Talk about sliming to tha max...

Anyway, as for servers? Suggstions? Do the foums actually host them? It never seems to work when I upload mine.

    THanx for any replies.

Yes, the forum can host your avatar, but those avatars has to be under 2KB.

    You can try these:

    -Host My Sig
    -Free Host
    -Village Photos

    Hope this helps.

I've used Picserver, but they got annoying (their server is down too much), but now they got a new server and site, so it might be better. I've used HostMySig, but I've never heard of Free Host. They look pretty good.

You can actually fool geocities by renaming the picture to a *.txt file.

Does that really work? because the Ns forums only allow the use of file extensions like .jpg or .gif. so how do you link to the .txt file?

    Hey that'd be cool.

I have loads of Geoshities acounts already, and have tried hosting pics on there. How would changing the extension help? Wouldn't it just try and insert the text file as an image?

I imagine the link field you have for your avatar is just an tag, but you only need to type the xxx bit. Therefore, putting a text file there would logicaly create an error. Please explain.

But yes, please host my sig. I'll trust you not to make it flash 'I am a n00b' or something. Just keep it as it is.
Mind you, that would be kinda funny.

The link I have now is the one that should work but doesn't. You can dload it from there. Just for clarity:http://www.freewebs.com/blueNovember/demonhunter2.gif
