Marines Are Somewhat Boring

<div class="IPBDescription">Predominantly the "lmg stage"</div> I think marines are super ultra boring to play with. With aliens I find 'em uber fun since there is so much variety to them. And the fact that killing things with your jaws never gets dull or tiresome. And there are early lifeform evolutions etc... keeps people happy and contented.
However with marine about 90% of the game consists of LMG or a few shotties. It's really lame imo. The marines must wait till super late game until HA and HMG is available. And even up till that stage, what more is there? Grenade launcher?
I think that NS needs more weapons. LMG = low lv weapon. HMG = high level weapon. What happened to the mid-level weapons? Shottie? I would like to see new weapons in future patches, preferrably something more interesting than MMG (medium machine gun).

Btw, isn't this one meant to be in the S&I forum?
Can't give you a link but someone said NS is almost over the limit of max guns allowed in the engine.
The HL limit is 32 so im told, but then im not sure if other things like OC's and turrets count.
I'm thinking "chaingun", although it would have to have quite a low damage-per-bullet to justify it having no reload.
Wrong <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
For the 50 billionth time, Flay could code a volumetric flamethrower and put it in the game any time he wanted.
It's the performance hit it would have on the HL engine which is unacceptable.
No. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
They might even think about renaming them LMG is some Cezh knock off submachine gun, Give it a good old school name. The shotty has some French name, cant rembaer it though. Would be cool if they used there names in game.
I posted this quite a long time ago<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=22303&hl=weapons' target='_blank'>Starting weapons</a>
I like the game to have less guns than most because I don't want it to turn into ns deathmatch, do you?
As an alien player sometimes I think that those guns are enough:
the lmg is a good weapon, it kills pretty fast
the pistol is headache sometimes because it's pinpoint accurate
the shotty fires powerfull shells really fast(a little too fast)
the hmg is uber powerfull(kills even onos fast)
the gl is hard to deal with(thank god it has a long reload time)
I think they have powerfull enough weapons.
Besides, frontiermans are supposed to have a small number of standard and effective guns;
not a big number of more or less effective/specialized guns.

Not everyone has low-end systems <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
But if you mean the engine would crash.. damn <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Would be cool to burn them all <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Personally, I love the teamwork. The feeling of 5 marine walking into a room and having 4 take up defensive positions while the fifth builds a resource tower and turrets is just really satisfying, especially when you come under attack and hold them off. (:
The max limit of guns in Half Life is 32. The same amount of max players in a server. Anything higher than 32 (players in the server or the number of weapons) will cause the game to become buggy, and nigh unplayable.
We are currently at 31, and the last spot is "reserved" for the volumetric flame thrower Flayra is trying to create; im sure.
The variety is in the gameplay, not the gunplay. Follow the commanders orders and you'll get some battles; sitting in base b*tching for another gun is boring and doesn't help the team at all.

Are you kidding me?
I -love- the LMG.
But as soon as I get my LMG converted to HMG I'm pretty sure I'll favor that one <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
But I agree. There should be a more variety of weapons, though it wouldn't seem economically feasable for the TSA HeadQuarters, but you know, if they have magical ships that magically teleports medpacks, ammunition and structures, I'm pretty sure they could allow more weapons <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I must agree to that marines get boring fast. I sometimes find it okay to be marine, but that's only because I love my LMG replacement along with the sound it has.
There's a problem, though. Half-Life has a modellimit, and there are tons of models already. even the stomp is a model (making it 3D sprite wouldn't work, I think), and that modellimit is filled up FAST.
Master Sword knows that <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Exactly what I was thinking. If each upgrade made the gun look and sound different everyone would be happy.
Like: lvl1 no scope
lvl 2 scope
lvl 3 different sound....
Of course individual models and sounds would be better...
What happened to 1.04 turrets where you could <b>hear</b> the upgrades?
