<div class="IPBDescription">A cheap, but effective fluke</div> ns_eclispe
When commanding one game, I send about 3 marines to Triad Generator, while the rest of the team went to Horseshoe.
When triad was built, i sent them to investigate the eclispe hive and with sheer luck..it was empty (the three marines i sent were mostly newbies). I had just enough money to get up a turret factory (just had to get 2 res nodes up and electrify both of them)
When i was just about to throw down some turrets, 3 skulks came rushing in. The rest of the team was busy with taking down some ocs in maintenance. Fearing the worst, i quickly throw down 3 turrets.
The three newbie marines killed one, and the other two got stuck on the turrets i placed. The newbies didn't shoot at first to admire the spectical, then proceeded to execute him. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
It was a total fluke, but hey, it worked, and it ended up helping us win the game (They never touched Eclispe hive for the rest of the game)

i expect the two aliens weren't best pleased with your fluke, but it is rather effective

True, but i've only done it once..which is the way i described and that was only a fluke
Lol! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
When I fear for the life of my marines, I don't drop them turrets or observatories, I drop them medpacks <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

congrats on your fluke. lol
but now see, you play on alien side, you are an onos, and as you are leading a well organised assault on a base, you get suddenly stuck because the com on the opposite side dropped a structure on you.
Imagine you are stuck for the rest of the game... no one killing you in order for you to respawn.
Would you like this to happen to you?
Would you find this very funny and enjoyable? I think not, not for a very long time.
They in fact <i>tryed</i> to correct it, imo, that's the reason why the /stuck command exists. Still, I don't think the idea of having the structures to start with 0 life to be viable (without counting in the background story aspect).
I've never built any CC walls, this could in theory not look like an exploit, but in practice certain cases are just making no-one agree on the fairness of it's use.
There was a topic on that too, can't remember the name, but it had a few valid points regarding this that you may want to learn about in order to inderstand people's opinions about that subject.
Lol! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

panic commanding can do stuff to your head D:
If you drop a CC onto an Onos so your marines can shoot it.. its a cheap tactic..
If you drop 4 or 5 CC's at the start of the game to ruin it.. ITS AN EXPLOIT.
Thats how i feel anyways =(
Even if this would have saved my numerical life, I wouldn't feel very proud.
If I see an alien get stuck under a structure my commander dropped on him, I will probably not shoot him, but instead take the bonus time it gave me to run/finish building structures.
I just can't help but seeing how people may over-use such a cheap tactic.
Wasting all the rez of the team in order to ruin the game isn't *even* an exploit to me.
You never intended to exploit something.
You just <b>ruined</b> the game. Nothing more.
Thus, ensuring yourself the access to a temporary-to-permanent ban on the server, depending on your behaviour, if the admins are willing to hear why you ruined the ambiance on their server, and if they have some records about your case.
An exploit means you don't play fair -in the other's opinion at least.
Ruining a game means you don't even play.
There's a difference between both.

Exploiting is when you use a bug to your advantage. The commander being able to drop structures on players is a bug.
Max
But yea its lame. dunno how they could fix a bug like that.. maybe expand the 'clear zone' for each structure so no one can run under it when its droping.
New structures have low health.
There is the stuck plugin (and kill).
If this happened to me I would consider it a very expensive way to kill me as a skulk and as a Onos I'm sure you could kill the structure before you took too much damage. Also it's next to impossible to pull off consistantly...
<!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> *BOOM*
<!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->
too costly/imprecise, etc. might work a few times. but not very often. I'd probably call it a low-priority issue. if it happened to me and I was a skulk, I'd most likely laugh and get on with it -- skulks are free, turrets aren't. =P
So if you tell me in practice it's truly so hard to do it with good results that it make it pretty random and costly, then I think we can assume that it can be relegated to the "accidents" list more than the exploits one.
Anyway, as I said, if you do it once or a couple of times in a match, in a crowded area or such, it's pretty likely to pass.
If you do it more consistantly, people may start to get angry and if the local admins consider it more an exploit than just a lame tactic, or even if it doesn't like lame tactics, then you'll have to deal with him.
I think it's rather a matter of opinion at this stage then.

just kiddin
I think that its a dishonorable thing to do, and very unpractical
but then again, there are always lame enough people to do it (i'd personally strangle my CO if i saw him waste our RP like that)
