I think that if i do it though, I can make it really 1337., IE, lots of room-clearing action/dark corners for marines, and lots of ambush points for the aliens.
If you added a few rooms branching off the main corridors and maybe have a part of it totally destroyed, I.E rubble and caved in bits. You could also throw in some scientificy stuff in there to explain the layout, like that laser you have to go around and turn on each individual parts in HL SP.

My plan was to have the entire outside ring a "crew quarters" area, with identical cabins branching off the main hallway, which would have light infestation, and, as per your suggestion, the hell blown out of it!
Oh, and all those Hex rooms in the center would be filled with sciency research equipment.
