Here's one from my map I'm working on, just thought I'd show you a screenie since this map isn't likely to ever be finished. An idea I am toying with is using many of these 'cells', this is a simple cell(only one 12-sided core, some cells will have a 'infinetly deep hole' in the middle like this one, others a pillar or a glass dome and so on. Some cells will be adjoined so that there basically are 2 12-sided 'cores' in a single room etc. These cells will be attached to each others with corridors and there will be some random map scale 'earthquakes' and some weird story about geothermal power or something and some gimmick rooms of course that are rather different like a cargo bay that actually contains lots and lots of cargo etc. anyway this cell in the picture is very basic and will do as a sort of prototype. The glassdomed rooms will have red mars type redish lighting from the outside which might look neat)
Here's one from origin, the flower thing in the foreground is not very nice since it is equivalent to holding an object very close to your face so it's kind of annoying(1st obvious mistake in the picture), and since res towers aren't exactly static objects that is error #2. Anyway it is a pretty cool room so I will post it all the same(told you I was teh baztard didn't I )
Soylent, I would strongly encourage you to finish that map. I really like it. My suggestion: Have uncloseable vents to each room but have each and every doorway weldable. That would be awsome. Or vice version Doors unweldable Vents weldable. Or just completely ignore my suggestion. But seriously that map sounds awsome.
Including a focus dot might help some people. Basically, if you're using photoshop, turn on ruler, set it to percent and put one at 25% and one at 75%.
EDIT: Perhaps a description of how to use the dot is in order. *chuckle* Make them glide together into one dot. then you should be able to see the image in 3D.
k'ragg that probably helps but that version is for 'parallell' viewing, here is the above in 'crosseyed'. Most people find crosseyed easier, especially with large images like this one. Sitting close to your monitor is a bad idea try to sit at normal distance or if you are having trouble possibly even further away. I can view K'raggs above but it took 10 minutes and from like 2 metres away... looking outwards with both eyes is practically impossible for me hence I have to stay far away, crosseyed is so easy because it is just like looking at something that is closer to you than the screen.

The angle on that one is also a little too strong; there's too much visible (e.g. the light in the top left) in one pic that's not visible in the other.

Coil, yours has NO 'angle' though...
Your eyes depend on being in a different position for viewing things as 3d, not just rotated around a point. I'm not even sure cam_idealyaw does anything if your not in thirdperson...

Just make them think they are looking wrong. To do this close your right eye and move your left hand in front of your left eye (from the left side) until the left image becomes invisible. Now do the same thing on the other side. Open both eyes and you'll get a feeling of squinting though you aren't. After 30 seconds or so your eyes will give in and start to squint to get these damn two pictures over each other. hehe. Nice pics btw, but what about making them uber 3D? Like they were a little model version of the real map and you are looking at them from real close? This would be even more amazing :]

I quote myself, because I think if you cover the wrong picture for each eye with your hand you wont have any problems to focus on them. It's mainly the borders of your screen, the room and other stuff that stops your brain from accepting these pictures as one. If there is nothing showing you that these are actually two pictures you can easily fool teh brain. (I tried the finger method first, but of course i focussed on the finger and had no chance to focus on the screen without loosing the squint.)
EDIT:What? Page 3 already? Oh nice pics, the plant picture is my favorite, not perfect but extremly 3D! Any tips on viewing parallel pictures?
EDIT2: Forget it, I was never good a squinting outwards

Regarding cam_idealyaw - that's probably exactly what happened. Merkaba gave me the command, and the shot he took *was* from 3rd person. I didn't realize it only worked from 3-p.
Can't get it to work /head hurts All i see now is two pictures, two coffee cups, two cigarettes.. err
The ideal way to take the picture is to move to the right (or left) slightly, whilst keeping your crosshair trained on the same spot. The way this works is that each picture is meant to be taken from the position of where each eye would be. Once the brain notices the two similarities in the picture, it makes sense of it in a 3D perspective. At least, that's what I can assume.
So since you're looking at it crosseyed, the left image is what the right eye would see, and the right image is what the left eye would see. That's why it's important to have them the right way around, or else the depth effect is inverted
Here's one for both inwards and outwards focusing.
Comments
Just take a transparent red thing and a transparent blue thing (rulers might work) and put one on each eye. Yay it works!
edit: Oh I see where you are going but these aren't anaglyphs so I'm afraid you do need at least some semi-l337 eye skilz0rz.

i got my cross eye skill from playing a 3d verson of quake3!
yes! it made 2 images onscreen (in real time) and u crossed your eyes to play. it was abit weird and hurt at first, but omg sooooo cool.
