Well, KOTOR is an RPG, and that's how combat is in a lot of them.
Yeah, dual mode is still in, and there's another mode: 2 on 1, like the dual in The Phantom Menace, which we can all agree was 10x better than any fight seen ever seen on screen before. I can't wait to team up with my buddy against some bozo who thinks he's all that with his saber staff.

After playing through it some more.. eh.. well.. its not 100% balanced as far as the three sabers go... the saber staff seems to swing too fast, and its secondary attack (kicks) are pretty much useless. Single saber, though it may just be the fact the demo only allows one stance, seems to swing too slow, and it just feels like there should be more moves. Dual sabers seem perfect as they are. Even with that though this is the best star wars FPS game I've played, and only the demo. One fun thing which I've found is to invest in Force Grip for your power during the missions, then you can grip the light saber wielding guys, who are a pain to kill sometimes, and then move them over a cliff. If they counter your grip they plummet to their death, if not then they die anyway LOL.
Tis truly ownage, but I have to say I can't see the point in using a single saber when dual sabers/lightstaff is so much better.
I'm stuck on the 2nd mission, after you beat the 3 jedi wannabes in that room, and now i'm stuck in that room with a door which has a thing which glows if I use force sight.
I think they should tweak the single saber into something almost or as proficient as the other sabers. Perhaps put a learning curve on the duel sabers and double bladed saber and make the single saber easier to use.
For those who've not got it yet, there's some mirrors over at the raven site for those who can't wait to get their grubby mits on it.
When you use Force Sense and you see the weird glowing symbols, they mean use either Force Push (As in the sign for the boulder in the beginning or the Master Jedi Tomb at the end) or Force Pull (As in the door halfway through)
The single saber should have 3 stances. the Dual and the Staff have 1

Apparently the level structure is partially non-linear. You have a choice of several missions to do at the first "tier," and the order doesn't affect the plot. When most/all (not sure which) of them in that tier are done, the plot moves forward to another tier, and so on. I wouldn't be surprized if the result is a ton of shorter, higher-quality missions lasting 15-30 minutes each instead of the mega-missions we've gotten used to spending upwards of an hour on in Jedi Knight 1 and 2. It would also explain you complaints about there being so few blacked out missions on whatever screen you're getting, as it probably only lists the ones on that "tier."

I'm glad the levels are short since, short of force healing, there is no way to heal yourself. And shield packs are very rare (I found one in the entire demo and it was in a secret area.
One thing I've noticed when replaying JA that's **** me off is how it can get to 5fps on some crap. Now, my system isn't absolute top of the line, but its pretty friggin close. 2.4ghz + 512MB Dual Channel PC2100 + GF4 Ti4400. I shouldn't be getting 5fps in the quake 3 engine.
Try setting some of the details down? Probably the thing I dislike most about the graphics is the STUPID trail the light sabers leave behind... use dual sabers and do the primary attack + secondary and you'll really notice it... even more so if you use force speed.
Hmm, after playing the demo, i wasn't actually too impressed to be honest. I will buy it nonetheless, since from previous JK games, they had great stories. It's nice to see that the level design is a bit better than it's predecessors, that was one grudge i have with the previous ones.
All in all, it wasn't fantastically great, in my opinion, but i will be giving the full version a try and, after all, it was actually that bad either.

What? The level design in JK was 100x better than anything in JO or JA, they looked great for the time, gave you vertigo, were gigantic, had none of those "get stuck for an hour looking all over the place only to find a tiny vent behind six boxes" crap you get in JO, and had the best flow I've ever seen in any game ever, despite making you go all over the place in crazy directions and stuff. Smoke much?
The level in JK1 where you're in the ship as its crashing down to the ground, and its tossing and turning in every direction, so what was the left wall is now the ceiling... That was the best level in any FPS game ever. ever.
