minesweeper anyone?
say you have 3 hives, the marines have a super-farmed super-mined base and a source of res. you try to send in groups of onii but they get blown to bits. stalemate? there is one way to end it within 24 hours.
go fade, you think im crazy? right?
in this situation, you have most of the res nodes, and you just need to end the game. the 50 res shouldnt sting too much. upgrade adrenaline/celer, cara/regen, sens if you want.
then just blink through thier base, it sets of the mines but by the time the mine detonates, you're far away and the marines are dead/damaged. you should be able to go through at least 10 depending on latency

no one uses mines anyways, for several reasons. like the fact that they are more expensive, and they hurt marines more often, and turrets are cheaper, and that a 2 hive gorge can decimate a base with its bile bomb.
the only time i would use mines is in a onos trap.
The bilebomb will set off mines AND do 200 damage to structures. Several gorges could charge in and empty their energy bilebombing and wipe out all the turrets easily if they concentrate fire. After that they'll respawn and regroge before the marines can rebuild.
You won't miss the gorge but you WILL miss 50 res..... especially if all your fades explode, taking out the mines and leave nothing but 8 skulks to rush the base with...
A fade basically doesn't take damage using this tactic for < 5 turrets, and the damage is pretty negligable up to about 8 turrets, then it starts to hurt.
A similar tactice can be employed vs marines, although it isn't as safe. If 2-3 marines attack you, just run around metabolizing. Then when they start reloading, whack em. Obviosly this is prone to failure if you dont notice the one guy in the squad that has a shottie or hmg.
(BTW, Finch. I remember (and so does my team, most likely) getting owned so hard by your Fading. whats your secret :/?
I honestly think that mines need some sort of boost. Their cost/effectivness ratio seems pretty low
Mines are actually quite useful. It's just a very rare occasion that you see them properly implemented. There are two things about mines that people don't like. First, they hurt marines and their structures. Second, because of reason one, you can't spam them everywhere and use them to stop those Skulks from chomping on your IP/armory/obs.
The best use of mines is the infamous Onos trap. Stack five of them in one spot and you're looking at a dead Onos for 10 res. Since they're proximity based, marines have been putting them on walls around corners and in blind spots. They don't have that annoying red sensor that screams "Hey! Mine here! Look out!", so you can be sneaky with them.
Makes me wonder though.. why doesnt stomp STOP mines, or set them off?
