An Easy Role For Fades...

minesweeper anyone?
say you have 3 hives, the marines have a super-farmed super-mined base and a source of res. you try to send in groups of onii but they get blown to bits. stalemate? there is one way to end it within 24 hours.
go fade, you think im crazy? right?
in this situation, you have most of the res nodes, and you just need to end the game. the 50 res shouldnt sting too much. upgrade adrenaline/celer, cara/regen, sens if you want.
then just blink through thier base, it sets of the mines but by the time the mine detonates, you're far away and the marines are dead/damaged. you should be able to go through at least 10 depending on latency

    hello? acid rocket? bile bomb?

no one uses mines anyways, for several reasons. like the fact that they are more expensive, and they hurt marines more often, and turrets are cheaper, and that a 2 hive gorge can decimate a base with its bile bomb.

the only time i would use mines is in a onos trap.

Well for starters you'd be stupid to blink through and set them off when you can just use acid rocket to blow it up. Second, if your at the point where you say you are the solution is a gorge and bilebomb, not a fade and blink/acid.

The bilebomb will set off mines AND do 200 damage to structures. Several gorges could charge in and empty their energy bilebombing and wipe out all the turrets easily if they concentrate fire. After that they'll respawn and regroge before the marines can rebuild.

Acid rockets and support gorges. They can drop some chambers then bile the mines, and if need be they can scout the base.

You won't miss the gorge but you WILL miss 50 res..... especially if all your fades explode, taking out the mines and leave nothing but 8 skulks to rush the base with...

Actually an interesting use i've found is as a 'damage sponge'. If you find a unguarded outpost with a fade (cara + adren) and have some gorges in tow (who would otherwise be unable to hurt the farm), have the fade run right up to draw the turrets attention, and just sit there metabolizing. Then the gorges are free to bile the place to bits.

A fade basically doesn't take damage using this tactic for < 5 turrets, and the damage is pretty negligable up to about 8 turrets, then it starts to hurt.

A similar tactice can be employed vs marines, although it isn't as safe. If 2-3 marines attack you, just run around metabolizing. Then when they start reloading, whack em. Obviosly this is prone to failure if you dont notice the one guy in the squad that has a shottie or hmg.

If the fades greatest asset is being mine sweepers.. im happy to say id rather go skulk and xeno mines/buildings/people without the 50 res risk or larger hit box's

Minesweeping should be left to Skulks and Gorges. Fades have plenty to do and minesweeper isn't on the list. If you are minesweeping with a Fade, you're not living up to your potential.

Finch is right. I don't spend 50 dollars to take mines out. Let gorges and skulks handle that.

(BTW, Finch. I remember (and so does my team, most likely) getting owned so hard by your Fading. whats your secret :/?

It's been said. Acid rocket from a distance is my prefered fading experience.

I honestly think that mines need some sort of boost. Their cost/effectivness ratio seems pretty low

Mines are actually quite useful. It's just a very rare occasion that you see them properly implemented. There are two things about mines that people don't like. First, they hurt marines and their structures. Second, because of reason one, you can't spam them everywhere and use them to stop those Skulks from chomping on your IP/armory/obs.

The best use of mines is the infamous Onos trap. Stack five of them in one spot and you're looking at a dead Onos for 10 res. Since they're proximity based, marines have been putting them on walls around corners and in blind spots. They don't have that annoying red sensor that screams "Hey! Mine here! Look out!", so you can be sneaky with them.

nothing makes an onos trap work better then live bait... drop 5 mines and stand on em, witha LMG the onos thinks he has a tasty snack untill it is to late. Works wonders if you have a team hiding and waiting for the boom... sometimes i have seen onos make it out of an onos trap alive.

Im pretty sure an onos out ranges a mine trip.. you'd have to run back at the last second, and if he doesnt fall for it, hes waisted (hopfuly) 200 life and a rush.

Makes me wonder though.. why doesnt stomp STOP mines, or set them off?
