Any way we can hard-wire something into NS, so that if they come in with their [myg0t] tag, it exits out of HL?

Possible but not really worth while, besides someone will come up with something that lets it bypass, or the could just use a bit of l337 speak to get around it.

Won't make any more difference than it ever has in the past in that case. What would be cool would be an anti-cheat integrated with NS. When's Valve going to start making their anit-cheat work with mods other than CS?

Make when someone connects to a NS server with a myg0t tag it insta-bans them and adds their wonid to a list.

Then just pass it around. =P

Also, since we can shape the NS community from the beginning, we can rally for servers where THERE ARE ACTUALLY ADMINS ON. You know, people who WATCH THE SERVER AND BAN PEOPLE ABUSING IT.

oh i dunno, infinity resources, insta upgrades, that sorta crap. and if word got out that NS made myg0ts instantly exit, it would draw attention from them. theyd go in seeing what all the fuss is about. we do NOT want to draw ****ers into this game.

Don't hate them, that is what they want. There is little that can be done against them; they have more WONIDs than you can ban in one life, and when they are determined to "rage" a server, they are extremely persistent.

I'm afraid NS will be a target for them, as sabotaging teamplay will be especially devastating here and make many people angry. The question is how many loopholes there will be to sabotage your team.

As far as cheats are concerned, I don't see anything but wallhack being worthwhile in NS. I really doubt that anything about the resources or updates can be controlled by manipulating the client. The wallhack however will be very effective, as it negates all stealth or hidden approach by the aliens. Again, there is little which can be done against it, except integrating Valve anti-cheat, but that will only be an option later.

In short, when you see a real unbannable myg0t enter a server, leave it and go to a different one. Don't let the rage get you.

I believe that Flayra has compatibly with Valve's anti-cheat software under control. I wouldn't be worrying about cheating at this point in time.

Yes, I believe they are the creators of OGC and hundreds of other cheats. I'd say what we have to do is monitor our servers at all times with good admins, that seems to work on a lot of CS servers.

afaik, Myg0ts did *not* create OGC. They are not a cheating clan, their goal is to make people angry. Sometimes they teamkill, sometimes they just stand in a narrow doorway to block it for their team. In every mod where you can work for your team, you can also work against it. And yes, they and the many people who follow their ideas *are* a concern.

Valve Anti-Cheat stops many cheats, but it's far from stopping all.

Flayra might be in control of many things, but cheating is out of his reach. It's out of everyone's reach, as it is happening on each individual player's computer. This is the one thing everybody *should* worry about. Everybody *should* learn how to identify cheaters from first-person perspective, and how to vote them out quickly. That can at least get rid of the newbie cheaters without access to hundreds of WON-IDs/CD-Keys.

And to all those that think this problem goes away if people just don't think/talk about it: Security through obscurity does not work. Never has, never will.

WTF do you mean not a cheating clan? They cheat constantly, that's what they do all of the time, and do things to mess with the team, but their main point is cheating. And yes, they didn't invent ogc, they believe themselves hackers and yet I bet most of them don't have a clue on what the name of the programming language used for making hacks is so much as knowledge of how to use it. I think it would be funny to do that though. I think it would be funnier for someone to pass a law restricting internet cheating unless people condone it, like an all cheater server, but, of course that won't happen anytime soon, so might as well just make a good admin for any servers already planned and perma-ban people. Hell, if the game is half as good as I hear already, make me an admin, I truthfully have nothing better to do and will ban anyone like that <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->.

I think it's best to annoy them and humiliate them. Admin mod does a good job of that most times, try the 'Aesir Timeo Llamas' firearms server for a good look at an auto-admin that's mighty useful.

The ability to run client commands on the offender's machine is also good. 'Unbindall' comes to mind, as does 'kill' and 'quit'. Also, 'sensitivity 0' and 'm_pitch (?) 0'. Harass them, and they'll probably stop once their game ruining experience is ruined.

I don't know if this makes sense, for I am tired.
