Why Do People Give Up So Easily?

    While I do understand why people f4 when defeat is obvious (after half an hour of grenade spamming in the marine base or something like that) I never understood why people f4 during a game. I experience a lot of otherwise sensible and skilled players simply give up when faced with ever so small a setback. Mostly it is because they lose a resource tower or a hive, but sometimes it's just because they got killed by a cloaked skulk or by turrets somewhere. They seem to think, that the game is lost as soon as they give just a little way for the other team.

    I think it is because the 2.0 games have become so long. There are seldom fast and decisive victory for either team, usually the game lasts at least half an hour and more often than not it drags on for more than an hour. Especially the endgame is slow, and I don't think most players have the patience to sit through it all unless they are on the winning side. So they f4 before it gets that far, and somewhere along the road (which haven't been that long yet) it got ok to quit at the beginning of the endgame, then it got ok to quit when everything seemed to indicate you would lose anyway, and now people think it is ok to quit at the first tiny hint, that their team is not winning. Well, it's not ok. It ruins the game for those who like to actually play the game instead of just thinking the end result is determined after first blood.

The game should go on for five minutes or so and then never end until one team gets wiped out. At least then you get a chance to fight back despite a few losers. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    yah, what about if the team with less players would get res faster to compensate player loss.

I've won as part of a marine team who don't even have a comm chair. Whilst you still have grit, determination, teamwork and a place to spawn, you can still win. Teamwork is the key really. This is why many people quit from losing games, because they don't feel part of a team. If they did, they'd hold out to the end, just for the camaraderie of it, perhaps singing "We shall overcome" through voicecomms. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Kinda cheesy, but I hear ya. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I've been in games where the tide has turned several times, it's rare, but when it happens, it's very cool. Hopefully the game will be tweaked to allow this to happen more often, usually when a team gets a considerable advantage, nothing short of a major mistake and a good opposing team will change it, I'd rather see this than a fifty-fifty balance.

    I agree that some folks are just wussies, sore losers, have no perspective on the gameflow, etc. But, the other day I was trying to Comm and, not doing very well, had to get out of my chair to try and defend the base. Got killed almost instantly, as I expected to be. Ramping up for the next game, TWO people thanked me for not sitting in the chair for five minutes, drawing it out. There's a patience aspect, not everyone has unlimited time to play/find other servers, and most (imho) would just like to get to the next damn game when it's obvious it's over. When Obvious is, depends on your experience level I guess... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Beautiful, I totally agree! Back in 1.04 I had a team of 5 (I was the comm and there were 4 others), playing on ns_Nancy. We knew our base was about to be destroyed so we made a run for port which was the only hive they had, (we had just taken out one, and had still maintained our tf set up at the other) oops for no base defence. Anyway all 4 of them were heavy armor and before the cc and I died I dropped them as much health and ammo as they could recieve. They took out port, and 4/5ths of the alien team, went to no name, took that out (before it was built), and took out the gorge their too. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> That was an exciting end game, and it is also my best never give up story. I hate people that give up early, it makes me so angry. It's not the end of the world when the mariens get HA, some people aren't good with ha, and are too busy shooting things that noone gets welded. I joined a server just yesterday, and took out 4 out of a group of 6 HA guys clumped togther (some with shotties, some with lmgs). My next trip back people came with me, and we took out the rest of the ha guys, their pg, tf, etc. That's why I don't understand why people give up so easily.

    its always seemed to me that strategy games are about stamina, as soon as one person gives up the game IS over ;/

    <span style='color:white'><span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'> ANYONE, ANYONE who hits F4 because they are going to lose is a stupid, jerk, wimp, poo poo head.</span></span>

    Unless the game is majorly lost and the marines have decided to make a nice WALL OF TURRETS and nade spam. Only Then should the kharaa team hit F4 to end it!
