Heavy Armor's Mentality

<div class="IPBDescription">I'm invincible!</div> I was just in a game where I had to leave early, but we were winning. I was commander and it started as a small 2v3 game then escalated to a 8v8 i think as the server gained players. Map was nothing, I built early TF and 3 turrets my one marine starting with me helped me build thm and i dropped 2 shotguns for us to defend the base. all was going well, another player joined i sent them to get foreboding chamber by PS hive, then a small lockdown of PS with 4 turrets. moved on to via, locked it down 6 turrets, then went around and claimed all the nodes. save for the ones close to to cargo, we had 6 or 7 at this point. I electrified them and upgraded everything I could. I was slow to get PGs up but it didn't matter yet, aliens weren't even going near the Turret farms in the hives.

The point is the game was going so well for me, Then I dropped heavy armor. I was 100's of res to spare so I dropped it abundantly like it was sand 5 HA, 5 HMG 2 GL tons of welders, my guys suted up and then we started losing. Sure they made tons of kills with their fancy new weapons, but they Refused to follow my orders. I tried and tried, they won't stay in a group, at least some of them were smart to go in pairs, but i wanted ALL of them together, We could have run into cargo and finished it off in minutes.I get them wandering off doing whatever, one rambo kept picking up the HA I was deploying anda HMG or GL and running to cargo to shoot off some nades into the WoL then get eaten by the onos and repeat. after 2 or 3 times of that I told him I wasn't dropping armor anymore till he listened, so there comes the vote to eject me, it fails at first but another one starts, while I am trying to tell people whats under attack, where and by whom, PGs are going down, TF are dieing, we lose PS once and twice after siegeing it back. via goes down, still no one listens, I still have a huge res reserve so I just leave the server hope they can fix it themselves.

Why do the 'new' people(NOOBS) do well at first, following orders, then go rambo once they get a new gun? I catered to them in everyway, except for the one rambo at the very end I stopped giving him armor, he just ran into the onos stomach as soon as he got one.

Just so this isn't a total whine post, It was a 2.01d server so I can comment on it. The new res price is awesome, makes expension really easy, electric time is good, the node electrifies fast enough so you can start it after a skulk is biting it and have it shock him before it goes down.(still having 1/4 health) I love the way marines are released when onos are redempted, even easier than killing one since you don't even have to scratch them to make em disapear. 2 HMG concentrated fire, its hard for the onos to even get close enough to devour in the first place.

Yay. I don't know whats up with em? If you go in a group of 5 HA's its unstoppable. Even the best alien team can't win. So why go off alone?

Research jetpacks. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Problem solved. Cheaper than HA, just as effective in their own ways.

I find the fights always get harder when we have HA. I don't know why. But suddenly, Onii appear from nowhere, we're getting devoured (****, needs to be a hive 2 ability! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) left and right...

    Nah...

JPs are less reliable and are more likely to fail.
Its much easier to kill a bunch of JP/shotgun outfits as opposed to a HA squad.

2.1 will herald the end of redeeming oni out for a free happy meal and the bane of all HA squads.

You know why they are team players at the start?--- <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo--> "Ill cap that node sir, Ill go there sir!"
SO THEY CAN GET THE BIG GUNS LATTER ON AND GO KILL STUFF!--- <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> "YAY, HA, HMG!! Im Leet time to kill woo!" <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> *DEVOUR* "Crap..."
But they, being the noobs they are, don't relize that they are not SUPER UNITS and can be killed fairly easy if caught issolated. <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> *BuRp*

However even in groups HA is still vulnarable to the "EAT and Run" ONOS strat, I have done it very well many times, just don't rely on redeem and be sneaky. (Being sneaky with an onos can be tough tho <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> )

Yes, as a commander and a marine (and alien) I have seen this way to many times. A team will fight tooth and nail for an advantage. However, once they get it, be it hmg + hev armor, or 2 hive oni, they will deside that, now, since they have such a big advantage over the other team, they no longer need to keep working together.

This is one of the main reasons for the long stailmates at the end where one team has the whole map and the other is demanding that they "just finish it".

JP are only good if u have people that know how to use them, like me. We recently were playing on ns_origin and our comm dropped 3 jps + shotties and we went out and destroyed both hives. But usually when u try this strat the ppl that arent too good with them pick em up and bring up another lose for the marines.

We had what could only be described as a bizarre game in a server two days ago.

Marines were all over us, someone had built sensory and no gorge seemed willing to go and put sensories in adequete positions. The marines did a superb job of taking out our res, the aliens did a terrible job at defending them and taking out marine res nodes. This was on Origin.

Marines just totally trounced us, we got two hives up, that wasn't hard, however they sieged our second hive (biodome) before we could get enough defence chambers down in the initial hive, left with only one! We then managed to get furnace up and so built a few MC's, but again, furnace was sieged and we were left with just three mc's in ventilation.

From here the aliens did nothing to advance in resources, and did nothing to neglect the marine team, so naturally they were pooling res and getting ready for HA. Just before they sent their first HA lot out, we managed to secure cargo for ourselves, we thought we could turn it around...but the HA's just stormed through, as most of us were gorges deffing up, we died quickly.

This is when it all got a bit weird, as we managed to get hives back up, taking down siege points, but 5 HA guys would just walk in and blast our hive apart. They took us down to ventalation only again and then tried to walk in on us. They had Med support and ammo support, but obviously they were the dumbest HA team in history because not one of the five of them welded anything but an alien...and on more thanhalf a dozen occasions in the whole game lone HA marines were parading around the map!

I've never seen as many skulk kills on HA marines as I've seen in this game...over three attacks we wiped out HA teams of almost half a dozen each time with little more than skulks and gorges at hive one level...bonkers really.

    Just an interesting story on this topic <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

sounds like the same situation from the alien perspective.

Ugh, I was comming ns_lost today and we had relocated to equil hive, instantly taking los paranoias all the way down to external overlook. We then managed to get a phase gate and several turrets in cargo, ALTHOUGH THE ALIENS KNEW WE WERE THERE! The game was going spectacular, as we had nearly every single rt on the map. All they had was alpha, and remembering the siege room, I equipped an entire TEAM of HA and gave them waypoints to the siege room. I expected them to get lost, as lost is a pretty confusing map. What I DIDN'T expect to happen is to find one man at marine start killing some stupid ocs, another at coolant distribution, two directly assaulting the hive (and subsequently getting killed in the process) and 3 people wandering around temperature control trying to find out how to get to the siege room. Then, I find that my original comm chair was under attack, and soon lost it. In the 20 seconds it took for me to get to the comm chair, the two assaulting the hive had died and the third assaulting the triple ocs with an hmg also died. I then started getting requests for more HA, which I denied. Although I did have a few hundred res, I wasn't about to go wasting it on a bunch of idiots who can't goto a waypoint even after I ordered, through voice comm, for them to go there. By that time, the 3 people who actually followed orders had made it into the siege room and had a decent 10 or 20 sieges up (yes, I really did have that much res <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->). It took two scans to take down the hive and the 10 or so ocs/dcs/mcs surrounding it. GG. On the other hand, I am confident that had there not been a siege room, there was no way we could've won. God bless alpha continuum.

I've said it once, I've said it twice, I'll say it again... On public games one can not excpect to command and have a team woth half a crack, and now a comm can't expect to comm a public game and expect to have a chance at winning. The people who haven't figured out what their supposed to do at this point will <b>Never</b> figure it out, they are Newbies eternal. To quote some one with the best widom to have in a public game "<i>If you set your expectations low, you won't be disapointed</i>".
