America's army

What do you think of it?
I was just wondering what people who DIDN'T live in America though of the America's Army release, when I realized, hey, there are people who don't live in America here! So folks, what do you think? Please, anyone and everyone talk!

My opinion is of the, "nice propoganda/marketing ploy/advertising concept...and anyone who makes life-changing decisions based on a game needs the army...it's better than some strange cult" party.

I can imagine it's been talked about before here, but now that people have had it for, what, a month now, I just wanted some opinions on the attempt. If you don't care to state your views, I apologize for wasting your time. Let the thread die.

As far as the crashing goes, I would suggest updating all your drivers. I had a similar issue with Half-Life resolved by updating my video drivers. If that doesn't work, then you could always install Win98 again and just dual-boot the computer. I still use Win98 to play games...

    What do I think?

I think I'm glad 7 million dollars of my tax money didn't go towards a game, instead of health care or education.

Better than some new weapon of mass death and destruction, though, eh?

As Jack Handy said, "We don't need new weapons of mass destruction. We just need to get more use out of the weapons we already have."

I think it's a damn fine game in many respects. I have an AMD T-Bird 1.2ghz, GeForce 2 GTS 32meg and 256 meg of ram and I get framerates no better than 25 under XP, and that's on bridge where you can bearly see the end of your barrel because of the fog. I was bloody impressed with the model lighting, if you walk into the sunlight you see the might progressing up the model and over the head. Also I spent about thirty seconds marveling at the way my M14A2 was lit progressivly from Butt to Muzzle as I walked into the sunlight. It's only when you play a game without voicecomm do you actually realise how damn usefull it is, I hope it gets into a later patch.

Overall I'm quite happy with it, being a free game and all. I would almost have paid for it.

Game was ok, code was worse than Half-Life. I figured out I would have to play EVERY training mission at least 5 times before I could play online (I don't feel like explaining what the bug did), so I quickly deleted it.

Try going to Google and typing in "dual boot". You should get several sites that will tell you how to set up a WinXP/Win98 dual boot. WinXP makes everything fairly easy, though.

Mini nuke? How mini are we talking? I mean, the detonator is quite a bit of conventional explosives. I couldn't imagine anything too "mini." Size of a suitcase, maybe, but it would take a strong man to lift it.
