neato smilies =).

Okay now down to bussiness.
I stumbled across this game at a lan cafe place, and lemme say IT ROCKED!
So i downloaded the game (of a secure server) and installed it just fine. Then when i went to play it loaded up like normal, i set my settings gfx card etc. Then i went to play online on a server and it would go to that connecting screen.

then go

No IPX support

Build 920 (or something)
Connecting....

then when the screen rolls up after its done connecting it shits itself <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

it sort of shuts itself down into this blue error message screen saying something like..

This proccess has been done to save your computer from further damage. If this is the first time u have recieved this message restart your computer and try the application again. If this does not work the following could be the problem : check the driver error and disable or updating that driver. Usually it is the graphics card.

then a bunch on numbers and letters and **** down the bottom.
and the only way to get out is to restart or shutdown the computer.

so plz any help would be appriciated, you have no idea what i have done with my graphics card today.

<span style='color:blue'>I am running
Windows XP OS
256 RAM
Pentium 4 900 megahurtz proccesor
NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 Model 64/Model 64 (Microsoft)
</span>

thanks in future <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Um, try running your halflife with -noipx in the shortcut. Otherwise, I'd see if your network card/modem drivers need updating. Lastly check out to make sure you're half-life isn't only crashing on ns.

    Other than that, my recommendations would be driver update with a possible reinstall of half-life/ns

    But noipx is a good thing, as you won't find an online server (hell, you'll be hard pressed to find a LAN one) that runs off IPX/SPX.

    yeah I doubt very much that it's the lack of ipx support.

    ok i re - installed and still no luck and no error message.

    Plz note i did forget to mention that the error message no ipx support was indeed not an error message.

    I dont know what the error message is and i dont know if this is it

    but does it effect the game if i install it and play it straight away or do i have to restart???

    GG XP critical error.

    The numbers are a memory offset, meaning that the program you were using (in this case, NS apparently) tried to use that file in such a way that it destabilized XP.

    Find what device uses that driver, and reinstall it. Usually solves the problem when it occurs with nVidia gfx cards (who apparently see this error the most often)

    IT looks to me like the gfx driver, I'm assuming you have a geForce X, was trying to access an XML System file that has stored data the card uses to load up its information. I would try to update your gfx driver from nvidia and see if that helps. If you have already done that then make sure there are no xp updates that you dont have esp critical ones. If that doesnt work then I hate to say it but try a format and reinstall. Maybe something is screwie in your operating system.

    ok, one thing you could do is post up your minidump from the LAST time this hapened

    they are in:
    c:\WINNT\minidump
    well actualy it is the XP equivilent of WINNT (so mabey like windows or something like that <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    they will be named like this:
    Mini070103-02.dmp

    07 = month
    01 = day
    03= year

    so find the one with the most recent date and post it here. Mabey some one will be able to extract the info from it to tell you JUST what borked <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (I can't)

    The folder you are looking for is probably C:\Windows\Minidump

    And yeah. Cmaudio.sys is your sound card. Learn how to tweak it or update it from the manufacturers, as best as you can.

    Have you tried setting HL.EXE to run in Win 98 simulation mode? I believe you right-click the shortcut you use and one of the options is to run as a Win 98 program.

    (Forgive the instructions, I'm doing this from memory from about 2 weeks ago.)

    ok i will try that when i get home..
    but if it is my sound card? then shouldnt there just be no sound? instead of the computer going to shutdown?? how could a sound driver do all that? unless the sound driver is not compatible alltogether? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    btw once i do get it to work do u need a "working cd key" to play? cause when it loads up it doesnt ask 4 1? <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
