A scenario: I am on a flat plane and I fire my GL downwards at a 45 degree angle to hit an oncoming skulk. Now what if I fired at that same 45 degree while I was 5 feet (feet being relative to the size of the marines) above on a platform. I may overshoot that same skulk. Or if I aim up too high I may hit the ceiling, there by ricocheting the grenade downard, messing up my arc. Ugh. No, I say there are too many variables to deal with for an accurate GL crosshair, as much as we all want one. The best method, as everyone well say, or most at least, is to simply get use to the arc and learn to compensate, then learn to shoot instinctively upon these arcs. I did it myself fairly easy, but for others it may take awhile. Nothing better to do, but if anything, try to drop the gren a little lower so it's a better change the aliens will walk into it....
Point in case, seeing as my friend was a mad Demolition/Explosives man for the game Tribes when I introduced him to it, I started to devise a complex mortar and grenade aiming reticle. This consisted of grenade markings on the left and mortars on the right going from the middle of the crosshair down. The units used where simply the numbers used when you laser range anything. I did a fair amount of tests, I ranged an object on the same plane with my laser, set up even distances (100, 200 etc.) and proceeded to test the arcs for both weapons. All this countless checking and testing, and finally finding where the arc of the grenade and mortar cut off (effectively leaving me to "gray out" the numbered ranges that you COULD NOT reach) and I was left with a crosshair I was very proud of. Just by being given the range to a target, you could put out in one shot a grenade or mortar almost directly on top of the object, as long as it was within arc range. And when this was presented to my friend..... he simply said. "Cool, but I already figured out how to shoot by feel." And then proceed to own with the mortar at any and all ranges, heights, on the fly, you name it, to this day. Gah...... what a waste of manpower and time that was........ Sorry, just my little rant to go along with this to prove....something... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
