Xeno Textures

Can we use the xeno textures from the half-life wad in our NS maps? Or is that not allowd? I saw some really good gross lookin ones in there and thought it would be great for a hive room area, but I'm not sure if I can use these.

Can anyone clear this up?

    Of course, you can use the HL textures freely. The only question is, would they look good in a NS map and would people accept them there... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Cool, I think I know how to use them. I like how they look...

    But...the map that I am making, cleverly named ns_haze, needs some custom textures. Its going with a crisp, fresh, clean white/aqua green look to it, and I only need to recolor some of the existing textures. Do you know where I can find a texture re-colorer/somone who will recolor them for me?

    You can try <a href='http://www.planetunreal.com/fordy/wally.htm' target='_blank'>Wally</a> to edit the textures...

    Wally is the program you want. Combined with Photoshop you can edit Textures in WADs or create your own.

    With regards to using the HL texture set, what about those that use either CS or DOD retail. Since neither of those comes with HL single player, will they still have the full texture set?

    Someone uses CS textures? Shame on him/her <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
    But as long as noone prohibits their use (Flayra?), they are Valve textures and freely available. Why not. Of course they HAVE to be wadincluded.

    I seem to remember that ChromeAngel used Xeno textures in one of his very early maps, and Flay didn't much like it..

    The Xeno textures aren't particularly Kharra-like anyway.

    It depends on the way you use them really. And yes ensuna, thats what kage told me when he taught me to map. We'll have to ask them if they have a half-life.wad. It might just come with the retail.

    But, is it possible to make a {lostinfest2 (Ment for func_illusinary) something that is a weldable? That blocks off an entrance to a hive? Would really like to use it.

    Don't quite understand you <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
    The wad files from Half-Life might not all be included in a potential retail version of NS, but till then it is a long way. So right now everyone has halflife.wad and xeno.wad. halflife.wad is also used in a number of official maps.

    NerdIII, halflife.wad may not be included with Counter-Strike retail or DoD retail and many people playing NS have CS or DoD retail.

    I'm not entirely certain as to whether NS is supported on DOD retail, but CS retail is definately supported and since that doesn't have the half-life single player missions, it would be a safe decision to not use HL textures, and unless someone has a more definate answer (calling anyone using CS retail) i would suggest you copy the textures from the HL wad into your own wad to minimise future problems.

    Of course, just texture the brush with that texture, then make it a func_weldable. I think yo uset it's Welds open, not closed flag to on. Then when you weld it, it will explode.

    Oh, and you'll need to set the rendermode to solid, with an FX value of 255

    CS retail contains all the textures that shipped with the original half-life game. As well as all the sounds, all the models and all the sprites. Just not the single-player maps.

    Venomous is correct; the same applies to DoD.
