Ns_srac pic (effect preview)

This is a shot from the cargo scanning area which is an intermediatry area between the two main cargo handling areas.
The arms sweep down scanning the crates and then turn off and return at double speed. I might make it trigger a trigger_hurt as a kind of trap. Good or bad idea?

    Could you make it so the sprite (im assuming its a sprite) wouldnt go throught the floor somehow, maybe by giving the sprite a flat bottom.
    And maybe you could make something that looks as though it projects this 'beam' like something on the roof maybe. That is if you dont already have something that i cant see.

    Anyhow that looks damn good, and nice idea with the trigger_hurt too <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Nice effect <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> I don't see any reason why you shouldn't keep it.

    How will it be activated? Randomly... a set timeframe... by the player... etc.

    Its actually a non-solid func_train, and there is a emitter on the roof, i haven't added the light sources yet thou.

    At the moment it's player/commander activated and will have a large time delay before its reset to prevent it being spammed.

    Really cool idea.  I think the arm looks too plain though, might want to spice it up a bit.  Also, I'm not too hot about having those a func_hurt.  Do they draw light at all?  You could make it a bit darker in that room (which would look good) and if those scanner emmited light, that could be the trap; being exposed...

    Cool effect, definitely.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of traps and trigger_hurts around the level, so if you can't decide, leave it out. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    I finally got everything working again (including FULL compiles finally) after a format so i thought i'd post this pic of the improved effect.

    hmm nice, i agree with Uncritical though, you shouldn't let that "cirkel" go through the floor like that

    Awesome texture! You should take that kind of texture and create forcefields and such for windows/landing bays, like in Gunman Chronicles. GJ so far!

    Well the inspiration came from Yamazakis forcefield texture which was used for that exact purpose I think.

    edit: woohoo 50 posts and a star  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    it looks very good.
    i disagree with the others about having it go thru the floor.  realistically using principles of physics, it would be far more energy efficient to have a circle projected than an irregular shape.
    if its merely a scanner of sorts, why would it necessarily have to hurt people?  what if the crates contained organics of some sort in transport. frying it might be bad for business.
    also, i dont know if this is possible but... maybe if you had a device that was clearly the emitter near by have some coloured spotlights tracking the circles it may give a neat effect.  (not sure if you can have spots track or even use the particle system to simulate this)

    it looks really good, kudos to you for thinking of it!

    there are arms that move with the circles as emmitters, might not be easy to see if you don't know their there.
    the trigger_hurt was more of a representing the fact that if an unwanted biological specimen was found it could be exterminated, more than likely i won't put it in thou.

    I like it the effect, my one gripe is that it goes through the floor; if it were really a projected field, you'd see interference from the scanner going through the floor. a suggestion could be this: I'm going to assume that workers aren't goign to push the crates through, so why not have them on two small rails. that way the eye, wanting to see some sort of effect from the floor's interference on those perfect cricles, won't be as disturbed...

    The floor now has two slots in it which the beams travel through.

    that looks great.

    say what are the r_speeds with that pic, i sure hope that they are under 450 or 500
    keep up the great job.
