<div class="IPBDescription">for headphones</div> My computer speakers didn't come with headphone jacks, so i'm using a splitter. This is a problem, as the headphones now are super super loud unless i turn the system volume almost all the way down.

To fix this, i picked up a 271-1732 stereo audio taper potentiometer from radio shack, and while it DOES work, it doens't work well... I couldn't find any definitive resource on how to wire it, so I just tested it.

There was a white, red, and black wire in the headphone cord, i hard-wired the white wires together, as that wire seems to be some sort of ground that both wires use.

The pot is divided into two sets of three leads with a 4th lead on the back (no idea what to do with that) so i just wired the two red wires to opposite sides of the top tier of leads, and the black wires on the bottom tier.

It works, BUT it doesn't turn off sound all the way, and has a constant volume until i take it almost to the very top end, at which point it goes from near-silence to total loudness VERY FAST, i'd say like 20degrees or less out of an entire 300degree turn.

Any Ideas?

BTW it's a 100,000K pot.
