<div class="IPBDescription">Help?</div> I have looked and cant seem to find how to configure the hammer compiler (hit f9 and that menu pops up)

I normally use Hammer to make bases for TGE (torque engine) so dont know how its normally setup.
If anyone could tell me that would be great.

    You're better off using Nem's Batch Compiler, as Hammer sucks up a chunk of RAM.

    You can get it <a href='http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemesis/index.php?p=2' target='_blank'>here</a>.

    Is Hammer better than QuArK for Torque Engine?!?!?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--><!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
    What is missing? I'll tell the devs to add that feature. Can't be that Hammer beats QuArK when it comes to support other engines <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    From what I hear Quake Army Knife (QuArK) is way better than VHE 3.5 Beta or 3.4. VHE doesn't have a leak finder, you can't view BSPs, and it crashes more than QuArK I think. VHE has this compiling bug where it'll say it has to end during RAD execution, after you close it your computer runs really slow and when you look at Processes (WinXP) QRAD.exe is STILL running. Really annoyed me 'til I figured out what it was. VHE's a RAM hog for sure and not just during the comile process.

    EDIT: I don't know what the Torque Engine is so I guess I am kind of off-topic. ha ha. I guess I didn't read right.

    You should base your arguments on fact; haven't you learned that today?

    Any editor will eat up a sizable chunk of RAM, by the way. It's just that you don't want that RAM taken during the compile process.

    If you setup a batchcompiler, and know how to read pointfiles, Hammer is every bit as good at Quark.

    Ha ha no I did learn a lesson today seriously. But I am not trying to prove anything other than my own experinces with both editors. I prefer VHE as I stated but that does not mean that it IS the better editor. Most people say that it depends on the person. Some dif QuArK some dig VHE. I'm a VHE man. No facts here. Just opinions man.

    Just use a handmade batchfile <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Make a text document and enter something like:

    zhlt253-17-xp\hlcsg.exe ns_extinct.map -hullfile nshulls.txt -wadautodetect -cliptype precise -estimate -chart
    zhlt253-17-xp\hlbsp.exe ns_extinct.map -estimate -chart
    zhlt253-17-xp\hlvis.exe ns_extinct.map -full -estimate -chart
    zhlt253-17-xp\hlrad.exe ns_extinct.map -extra -bounce 1 -dscale 1 -estimate -chart
    copy ns_extinct.bsp "C:\Program Files\Sierra\HL\ns\maps"
    copy ns_extinct.pts "C:\Program Files\Sierra\HL\ns\maps"
    "C:\Program Files\Sierra\HL\hl.exe" -game ns -console +map ns_extinct

    Obviously customise the paths and parameters above to your needs

    Then rename the .txt extension to .bat and your done. To edit the batch file, right click on it and select edit.

    As for Torque - it specifically to supports the Worldcraft .rmf format for creating prefabs (buildings etc) which are then compiled (different process) and dropped on to terrains in the Torque editor. This is probably because Worldcraft is such a popular and widely used editor. But why they didn't use the more generic .map format is beyond me. Probably just ignorance.
