<div class="IPBDescription">Scare the pants off your players.</div> I originally posted a request for controling deathmessages on the old modns.org boards. I've reposted it on the new ones for completeness <a href='http://www.modns.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=37' target='_blank'>here</a>.
<a href='http://www.modns.org/forums/index.php?showuser=12' target='_blank'>prsearle</a> has coded it, and you can download it from his plugins page <a href='http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pr.searle/' target='_blank'>here</a>.
Heres how it works.
This metamod plugin has one new cvar: mp_deathmsg. The value of mp_deathmsg is a bitmask; choose the values you want from the following list and add them up.
1 - Marine kills will not be shown
2 - Alien kills will not be shown
4 - Suicides will not be shown
8 - Readyroom idlers and spectators will not see deaths
I recommend setting mp_deathmsg to 7. Very scarey!
Edit: And heres the details for v2 of the plugin.
Version 2.0 of HideDeaths is now available. The changes are:
mp_deathmsg now visible in server browsers.
mp_deathmsg now takes the following values:
1: Marines cannot see marine deaths
2: Marines cannot see alien deaths
4: Aliens cannot see marine deaths
8: Aliens cannot see alien deaths
16: Ready-room idlers/spectators cannot see marine deaths
32: Ready-room idlers/spectators cannot see alien deaths
64: Marines cannot see who killed other marines
128: Marines cannot see who killed other aliens
256: Aliens cannot see who killed other marines
512: Aliens cannot see who killed other aliens
1024: Ready-room idlers/spectators cannot see who killed other marines
2048: Ready-room idlers/spectators cannot see who killed other aliens
4096: Marines do not hear when they get res for a kill
8192: Aliens do not hear when they get res for a kill
For the "x cannot see who killed other x" values, the type of the kill is still displayed. So you can tell how they died, just not who killed them.
I recommend a setting of 12295. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Whats 7? No kills/deaths are shown?
I think that this should be a standard option in NS, also don't allow people to talk while they're dead. If they can still talk while dead, they can just tell their team when they die.

awhile ago you couldn't talk while dead, they removed it because people who used external voice-communication programs had an advantage
