The Joys Of Principals Of Computer System

College Course
i'm in it right now. Looks like a bunch of bull crap.

we'll be learning:

General Knowledge of the Windows Operating System
Internet Explorer & Campus E-mail
Microsoft Word 2002
Microsoft Excel 2002
Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
Microsoft Access 2002

WHAT GREAT FUN. I wonder if i'll be able to test out of it simply for the fact that I built my computer, i customized my XP settings and I know how to make spreadsheets, used to do it for Utopia (Games.swirve.com/utopia), I don't even plan on using Word (Works all the way), PowerPoint is gonna be intuitive and Access...probably again intuitive.

Should I drop (and get Economics if it's open, accounting if Eco. is closed) or keep this boringtastical class?

There's no point in learning stuff you already know. Besides, if you want to learn Microsoft programs there is the nice shiny F1.

I learned all that last year... in tenth grade. I'd drop it, because I know all that stuff already and most of it I won't use.

You should consider learning Word. Microsoft works by default creates .wps files, which NOTHING OTHER THAN WORKS can read due to some crazy encoding system that only exists in the Word environment.

I can't tell you how annoying it is getting a .wps file from a client, because I can't read it without buying Works (no, text converters don't work, I've tried too many of them to list). Lots of professors I have won't even accept papers in .wps format, they have to be .doc or .txt.

Drop it like a hot potato. I took a course like that, and was bored out of my mind totally.

Also, Word is better than Works, and not hard to "learn" at all, you just have to adapt to it.

I plan on writing in Works and then Copy/paste in WordPad. I was raised with MSWorks, i'll die with MSworks for the actual writing

I already know the basics of MSword and I don't even have it installed.

Plus I plan on printing most of my stuff before handing it in. and a lot of formats are blocked for in-campus attachments.

Lots of schools now require you to turn things in online through a system like WebCT or TurnItIn.com, in which case a certain format is required. Many profs still ask you to print it out, this is just FYI.

this is a STATE college. Some people don't even know how to work the basics of Iexplore. luckily for now...

I have only 2 essays for World History II, 9 Essays for English Comp and...None for Effective speaking. We don't have to do anything web based.

Plus our school takes .rtf so we don't have to worry.

Heck, drop that class. It's not worth your money, worse if you need to buy supplemental textbooks. Econ./accounting will give you more bang for your buck. Or do something else that's fun.

I have a friend at UCLA taking 'History of Rock and Roll'. See if your college has something like that.

more or less i'm gonna try and drop it but it is a required course, for some godly unknown reason.

Now I won't have an excuse NOT to read the Discussion forums.

It's sad when I (somewhat educated idiot i am) know more about the hardware of the computer then the teacher. One day I should carry my case into class and show them all the basics.

On the plus note, my mother's friend gave me 500$ to buy books for class, I spent about 200 on History and Eng Comp, probably another 50$ on this course. I'll have 250$ left over to get supplemental stuff. The essential stuff ya know...RAM, Vid Card, Games

Rich friends of parents = w00t because she's gonna give me another 500$ next semester. and 500$ each semester I think. It's how she's helping put me through college.

I can't believe they make that stuff required. like someone else said, F1. The first meeting of the class, the prof should write "F1" on the board and then give everyone A's... I mean, yeah, microsoft programs do have subtleties, like macros and visual basic scripting... but I seriously doubt a survey course would get into it...
