For the second month in a row, Electronic Arts' expansion to their first-person shooter hit game Battlefield 1942™, Battlefield 1942™: Road to Rome has occupied the top rank, making it the only game ever to overthrow Counter-Strike. Regarding iGames' July results, David Bonacci, EA's Product Manager for the Battlefield 1942 franchise said, "Our partnership with iGames is a critical factor in the continuing success of Battlefield 1942. Their game centers are the perfect venue for showcasing all of the action and intensity of Battlefield 1942."
Blizzard Entertainment's WarCraft® III holds steady in the number three spot for a second month. Atari's fast-paced multiplayer shooter Unreal® Tournament 2003 crept up three notches to number four. Delta Force - Black Hawk Down from NovaLogic has steadily moved up the ranks month by month to attain the fifth position, knocking Sony Online Entertainment's PlanetSide down a few rungs to number eight.
For the first time ever, publisher Square Enix has released their latest in the FINAL FANTASY series, FINAL FANTASY® XI online. The game debuted in iGames centers on July 21 and immediately shot onto the Top 20 chart at number seven. iGames expects the game to remain a strong contender through August and into September as the beta continues in more and more centers. Mythic Entertainment's expansion role-playing game, Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles reappears on the chart in July in ninth place after a noticeable absence in June. DAoC: SI is running circles around its role-playing competitor on the list, Sony's EverQuest®, which comes in in the final spot. The top half of the list is completed by EA's other strong WWII FPS game, Medal of Honor Allied Assault: Spearhead.
Microsoft Game Studios™' strategy game that takes players through important historical eras, Age of Mythology™, climbed up from number 17 in June to number 13 in July. Expect this to gain a higher place in October with an iGames showcase for the expansion pack, Age of Mythology™: The Titans.
Missing from its usual positioning higher up on the charts is Halo for the Xbox. Halo is consistently iGames' top console game yet it slipped to #19 in July. iGames anticipates a Halo comeback though for future months with a new season of tournaments for the console, AND for the long-awaited Halo for PC. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
So basically, it's more popular in LAN cafe's? A quick glance at gamespy player stats shows CS at a cool 10x more players (95,000 CS versus 9600 BF), so don't expect a big CPL upheaval anytime soon...

why? well most "semi-geeks" i know play Cs and BF1942, they are both very popular and known games...and since BF got better graphics, more features(vehicles...) i think it might take over.
oeh i just read the 95000 to 9600 difference.
* DHP is a nubcaek for not reading all of the post...
not to mention <b>"OMG" "pwn"</b> and <b>"j00"</b>
Maybe ours just sucks. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
<i>Edit:</i> Well that's not to say that those are the only games they have at the LAN café around here, but those are the only games really worth playing, and the only games mentioned in that article, soo... Meh.
Think about camping in Natural Selection.. almost none existant. Well, if you DO camp, you will die! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I wonder if this means more CSer type people (you know, the kind that only play CS and haven't so much as heard of anything else) will play other stuff. I doubt very much that any game will "dethrone" CS and take its place in the same way since, imho, CS stays where it is because most of its playerbase don't know that (better) alternatives exist.
I was at a LAN party and all the people playing CS looked so sad. And then I remembered I was playing 1942 with 11 others and all was well and went back on my merry way, laughing as I crashed my jet into enemy helicopters, crashed my Jeep into Panzers, and just <i>had fun</i>. I've played CS, and it doesn't make you have a good time, it keeps you occupied.
Or maybe it's just <a href='http://www.gamespy.com/dailyvictim/index.asp?id=636' target='_blank'>this.</a>
I think it's the fact that most people have an internet connection at home, where they can play Counter-Strike to their heart's content. BF is arguably more fun with lots and lots of players, something that often only LAN play is capable of supporting. So people will go to a netcafe when they want to play a big game of BF, hence the higher amount of players. As for online play, CS obviously still reigns supreme.
While I'm out getting new things, maybe I should buy a new computer
Cause if I have to play a awesome game I want to do so with a great computer!
