Xp Refresh Rates In Games....

airyKairyK Join Date: 2002-12-19 Member: 11126Members
<div class="IPBDescription">this is my problem...</div> ok we all know about this problem- xp will automatically adjust the refresh rate to 60hz everytime you go into a game that doesnt already fixes ie: half life. well the last time i used the program reforce or something like that only a few games would work. and games like BF1942 and such would just crash on opening up...so is there anyway around this? perhaps a program to only target specific games? or what i dont like playing ns at 60hz...any ideaS?

    I'm no expert, but refresh rates shouldn't crash BF1942, or anything else. I've got WinXP and don't have any of these problems. The only thing I can suggest is to update your video card drivers, then just try everything you can to set the refresh rate to what you want.

    Is your Vsync disabled in the Advanced Properties of your vid card?

    Also I think there is a way to set your vid card to automatically set a certain refresh rate in certain resolutions like 1024 x 768 x 32 (100)

    But im running win2kpro so it might not apply to xp

    WIn XP and 2000 does default to 60 hz for OpenGL. You can make Direct3d games show at proper refresh rates, but you need some kind of hack (like NvidiaRefreshRateFixMKII) to make it display OpenGL above 60 hz.

    Really lame that it hasnt been fixed after 2 years...

    Battlefield doesn't like any programs that modify the refresh rate in XP. To that end, getting BF to run at a decent refresh rate is still possible.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->First install the latest patch from www.battlefield1942.com

    Once done, Go to: My computer, then C drive, then Program Files, EA GAMES, Battlefield 1942, then the Mods\bf1942 folder then the Settings folder. In that folder you will see a file called VideoDefault.con. You will want to double click this file to open it. If it asks you what Program to use (in Windows XP you will first want to choose "Display a list of programs for me to choose from), choose WordPad. In there you will see a line with this command:

    renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

    Change the 0 to a 1 and then Save the file. This will allow refresh rates above 60 Hz in the game<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    This just means that when you choose your resolution in game, theres an extra set of options for the refresh rates.

    You need to do a file hack for Battlefield to work.

    Open your battlefield directory and go to the settings folder (or mods/bf1942/settings if you have road to rome) and open the VideoDefault.con file in notepad. Change the 0 in the last line to a 1.

    renderer.allowallrefreshrates 0 ----> renderer.allowallrefreshrates 1

    That will stop the game from crashing and allow you to choose your refresh rate in your video options. If it still crashes, you need to reinstall your video drivers.

    Sorry, they must of taken it off download.com

    You can find the shareware version on there. If I'm not mistaken, the shareware version lasts indefinitely.

    I don't know what refresh tweak utility you're using, but for me, Battlefield only worked once I'd reset to default windows XP refresh rate through the utility. Just editing the file in the BF directory won't fix it, because your refresh rate is still being changed by an external program.

    Most of the programs just do a registry hack to give you the higher refresh rates. For example, I used the refresh rate fix in RivaTuner, do the battlefield file hack, and I can play fine. I believe in the Help section of Powerstrip, there is a question asking why Battlefield doesnt work. It will give you the same explanation as above.

    Powerstrip is a wonderful thing.

    Great for gamma tweaking too. Now I can see skulks in even the darkest corners of NS maps.

    you can tell powerstrip to automatically load certain settings when certain applications run.

    i like to drop my gamma and overclock my video card when in NS to make it more cinematic, and i have it up my refresh rate and gamma when running a movie player, so things are more nicely viewed.
