I tried Comming for the first time in a while last night, no one wanted to so I jumped in and started building upgrades. We had plenty of res, so I made the "upgrade" building and tried to make the Arms Lab. But, I needed an advanced armory first. Which seemed to take like a jillion years to build, plus the time to research HA, plus all of the res for the research buildings etc.
Then I finally understood why the Marines lose so much, and why when I play marines I spend the entire game running around with an LMG. If the marines could drop the Arms Lab at the beginning of a game, and start research right away I think the game would be completely balanced, and about 10X more fun.
Remember those 1.04 games where all the maries had jetpacks? and shotties? Wasn't that fun?
By the time marines get HA, the entire Alien team is Onos. Forget the tweaks just let the marines drop a lab like in 1.04 and we will get some serious fights.

That would seriously unbalance the game....

When they have onos we usually have some HA (Unless its that one guy on the server whos so good he get onos like 5 mins into the game)

Requiring Advanced Armory I don't mind, but I do agree that Advanced Armory does take a while, but you have to keep in mind that there are hives that take 3 minutes to build.
Skulks against Heavy Machine guns are toast. Or cheese.
I usually just start the upgrade the beginning of the game.
My marines are usaully out there killing skulksand making me res. Buildings dont take all that long to build And normally with a decent team Im giving out HA and shotties before there is more then one onos. By the time there getting two or three I normally have a train going.

The problem with the marine teams are just that the marines are usually the team with least skilled players, since everyone play marine for some reason...
How often do you get a guy asking how t oevolve to onos compared to a guy asking how to buy weapons?
N00bs play marine alot more than alien, thats why aliens win...
Maybe they can make an exception? Maybe they can make it so that you could build a proto before you get adv. armory BUT only research jps? And the most powerfull weapon you can hand out without and adv. armory is a shotty so it wont be TERRIBLY unbalanced...
So before a adv. armory maybe they should make it so you can build a proto but only research jps...
Usually by that time, the alien team is suffeciently prepared to handle them as long as they had their own share of res nodes.
If you see onos come around the same time as HA, then you know you've got balance here.

I've played a few games (very few), where they got onos in about 2mins to 5 mins....umm...and i see ppl doing ...well i dont want to say what it is..but it was one of the pre1.04 exploits
