Anyone got any advice for this?
I'm considering registering my own .co.uk or .com domain name.
I'm not 100% sure why but it's something i've always wanted to do.
So i'm here to ask if anyone of you have done it?
What companies do you recommend?
What type of prices do you pay?
Do you only get the .co.uk / .com name or do you get webspace too?

Any and all information is welcome.

While I don't know much about the purchasing of websites and the intricacies therein, I however can answer your last question.

Typically, with the registration of a domain name you will recieve webspace with it.

I host a few .net's and .coms and i go thru easyspace. Their domain ordering service is good but never buy webspace off them, its expensive and their bandwidth is rubbish, so what i do is buy the domains thru them and host at home on my dedicated line

I've got my domain through dotster. It's a mere $14.95US/year for any domain type.

At the time I got my domain (probably 2yrs ago), it was the least expensive place I've found. There's probably better/cheaper places to get a domain now.

34SP - Full webhosting and domain for less than a slap-up meal. (£20/year). For someone new at making and hosting their own website, you cant really get much better. Their support is top notch, their bandwidth is capped low, but you wont need much more unless you are planning on hosting anything illegal ( ), its in the UK, so you will get decent upload and download, and its quick and easy to set up.

And yes, I know im going out of my way to sell these people to you, but Ive been using them for over 2 years, and I have had one problem, which got sorted within the hour. And also I like referrals, they get me points! Im not sure what the points do exactly, I havnt had any referrals yet, but enter 'box7' in the referral box if you order and ill send you free cookies.

DY357LX, trust me, its so much easier buying it like this and getting everything set up at the same time. I remember when I was in your shoes.

godaddy.com registers domain names for $8.95 per year. I'm not sure how their webhosting is, but the domain registering is cheap.

    I go through GoDaddy.com for my domains, it's only $8.95 a year.

As for webhosting, I highly recommend NOT using the registrar if they even offer it. You can find cheap webhosting through companies that specialize in it, like SimplySpace.com, or WBWS.net

EDIT: Just FYI I use Rackshack.net for my webhosting.
