Shottie Rush Failed.. But We Won

on NS_lost
Yesterday i was playing NS_lost on a server that is pretty good in the way of regulars

No one would comm so i said i would do it if we shottie rushed......

Build one ip, armory, and dropped 8 shotties

We rushed to the first hive.. and it was empty, but got around 21 rfk on the way.... after med spam

Rushed 2nd hive....and got around 50 rfk... 1st marines to die went out to cap random res all over map and guard it while it electified.... by the time my last shottie died.. the res capping team had taken out 2 alien res chambers.. and gotten 3 up and electrified...

The hive was still up... but aliens had only one res node

Dropped 2 more res nodes and electrified... then got a hive... res was already capped at the hive...

Dropped 2 arms labs... and just instructed marines to guard base, and hive while i dual arms lab upgraded....

We were down to 3 rt by the time the level 3 upgrades and armory were done... but we had a HUGE advantage now... sent out squads to destroy the res.. squads of three..and got heavy armor going....

Aliens were short of res now... and only had one fade that we were aware of...
Welded into hive through beta deck access and sieged it... now had 5 res nodes and 2 hives... Small turret farm at this hive...

Gave ENTIRE TEAM heavy armor...

Pushed to final hive.. capping all res enroute... and taking out the sole onos the team had been able to field....

Took hive down and won

Honestly this was the first time i had ever seen marines win on this map... and the fact that a shottie rush gone bad is the main reason it happened it something to ponder....

The comm was the poster of the topic....didn't you read the whole post?

Ah, it was kinda hard to see that one little line anyway.

Its not easy to win with lost but its certainly possible.

You just have to secure areas very quickly before aliens take control, and be more aggresive than other maps.

Of course, in clan games its extreemly hard to win on lost so not many clans play it.

I think is a mistake many comms make is not destroying res nodes. While killing the onos is great, preventing it is much cheaper, safer, and easier. If you pass a res node, take it out. Unless your doing some stealth mission you got little to lose.

Ive also noticed that in late games, very FEW people put up res nodes. Ive joined late games where aliens have 3 nodes and I pass empty after empty. I spend my time yelling at everyone to put res nodes up but they just keep saving for onos. (Of course I would put them up but when you join late game your at 0 res, and with 3 nodes it takes time)

Woah Woah WOAH! marines actually WON a game on lost? after the 20+ times ive played that map, aliens ALWAYS won

Yes we won because we were on the offensive the entire time.... Lost is designed that aliens are always on the offensive

If you look at the overhead of how that map is set up.. its a treasure trove for alien ambushes...

Take advantage of this..... and win....

I agree with Tiax.. i ALWAYS tell my marines to take out the res nodes... but alas.. they never do
Except the one time u get three people into the freakin hive.. then they all of the sudden need to knife the res node instead of building the phase.. thereby alerting the whole damn alien team... ahhh... the irony

Rush is the king, oh yes. On the kharaa side, its easy rfk. On marine side, virtually noone puts up OC at start, so you can walk into most hives, force the aliens to go defensive, then spend your time capping res and turreting them into their hive.

Pub alien players are getting very very slack in defence. They're putting all their focus onto CAPPING rts, not onto HOLDING them. Marine rushes can be devastating.
