this thing rocks
Today I picked up a kinda OEM package of the ATI Remote Wonder. I say kinda cause it wasn't your typical OEM, but it wasn't in a regular ATI box either. Kinda like a 3rd party (even has a name, "Sapphire") just bundled it and called it the "Remote Control Bob". Stupid name, but hey, I got an ATI Remote Wonder for $50, which is $29.99 below MSRP. :P
As some of you know I'm building a media center PC. Well in the meantime till I acquire funds I'm just going to have a really long cable going from my main PC to the living room when I want to watch something. This Remote Wonder is awesome, cause I can use it from practically anywhere in the house. Its radio wave based, not infrared, so you don't have to point it directly at the usb box (very tiny) or anything.
The main thing about the gizmo is it has a circular area you can push in a direction (up down left or right) and it simulates mouse movement. Its pretty damn impressive as far as features go. It has built in plug-in's for Windows Media Player and Winamp, so the Play/Stop/Next/Prev/Pause/etc buttons actually work like they would on a VCR and such. Best of all, they've released the SDK for people to make their own plug-ins, so you can also get plugins for stuff like the Divx Player and other things. There are also 8 programmable buttons you can set to do anything from launching a specifc application to executing a keyboard shortcut. Mad pwnage.
This is so far the best ATI product to date, and the only one I've ever seen that I've been almost completely satisfied with. My only two gripes are the mouse control is a little too imprecise, and also you can't make ALT+ENTER a bindable shortcut. These two minor things aside, this is definately something anybody will want to have for their home theater PC. It just rocks.
