Smash Mouth

And the direction their music has taken
Is it just me, or has Smash Mouth's music become less and less appealing over the years? Their first album,Fush Yu Mang, is pretty solid, sticking with some good rock roots, mixed with some ska sounds and some other bits of flair. And it was a bit more mature an album. But as each progressive album was released, it became more and more pop-rock than I would like. Astro Lounge was acceptable because it had a new kind of funk/groove feel to it, but still had enough rock in it for me not to mind. Then Smash Mouth, their first self-titled album was released, and it is definitely a very different style from where they started, with more pop than AL. And I recently discovered that they'd released an album entitled Get the Picture? earlier this month. I listened to a sample song, and do my displeasure, found that its set heavily into a pop-rock kinda feel, with more pop than anything. And now its moslty teen-related stuff, like parties and the beach, etc etc etc. Just felt erked enough about this to post, and I'm curious about what other people think as well. And don't get me wrong, their new songs are good music, they've just lost what was appealing to me before. And its not that I listen to rock music exclusively, that just happens to be the largest basic genre that encompasses much of my music (I also listen to a lot of goth, techno, ska, and jazz, to name a few).

smash mouth is lame, if you took the time writing up all that expecting us to read it and respond with an actual answer then you must be even lamer...

Yeah I noticed that to. First album was decent music, the rest was just a fall downword.

Ps. Forkeh. With that attitude that blonde bomb in your school won't want anything to do with you if you act like that. Gotta keep an open mind dude.

To be honest, I'm surprised that Smashmouth have more than two songs, Walking On The Sun and Rockstar (or whatever it's callled). It seems that the latter is the "feel-good" song of every movie these days.

But in all seriousness, i've not followed them religiously or anything, but there has been a definate decline in the standard of music they've been producing.

And Forkeh, that's a really crappy attitude you've got there.

It ain't no joke I'd like to buy the world a toke
And teach the world to sing in perfect harmony
And teach the world to snuff the fires and the liars
Hey I know it's just a song but it's spice for the recipe
This is a love attack I know it went out but it's back.
It's just like any fad it retracts before impact
And just like fashion it's a passion for the with it and hip
If you got the goods they'll come and buy it just to stay in the clique

Half a decade since hearing it for the last time, I can still belt out the entire song. What kind of loser am I?!?!

To be honest, I lost interest in Smashmouth after I got tired of this song. I never listened to Astrolounge, and never plan to
