Demo was released about 2 days ago, I just got around to playing the Axis mission today, it was awsome. Its pretty much Jagged Alliance in 3d with destructable objects, ragdoll physics, and Nazi **** kicking goodness

Comes out in 1 month too, I better start saving, I dunno how I will afford this plus Deus Ex 2, Half-Life 2, 512MB DDR, and a new CPU while still having enough to buy presents

BTW The TenSix fund is now open

I searched for Silent Storm and it came up blank. I am a DARK QUEEN, I know these things!

Well I couldn't find the demo file on their site, but it does look pretty cool.

So I went a-browsing through the files section and downloaded Blitzkrieg and I'm having a blast with it. First WW2 strategy game I've played that I actually liked. Not much into those turn based dealies, but this is quite cool, feels like I'm a real commander.

    Edit: Checked FP, I'm a ****.

Hmmm...that actually looks half interesting. And huzzah! It's only 88 mb!

From WorthPlaying review... I guess those kids never played Bullfrog's Syndicate Wars, which basically wrote the book on such gameplay many years ago. When will your tiresome generation learn to do a little research before posting nonsense?

Game looks coolish, I'll give it a try next week.

Syndycate wars was one of the best games in isometric view! I loved it.

    *cry*

I just noticed that I downloaded the Blitzkrieg demo.

Can you blame me? Apart from the name of the executable, the name of the directory, the title screen, the file I actually downloaded, the "Buy me" splash screen, and the website I was at I had no way of knowing!

    D'oh.

Well lets make some lemonade, so to speak. *grumble*

I played the Blitzkrieg demo, and found it to be a fun little game. While it doesn't really fit into the type of game that I'm actually interested in, it still engrossed me for an hour or so. That 1-hour mark was when I got utterly pwned by a few tanks (You won't be seeing A "General" title in front of my name anytime soon). It actually had quite high-quality graphics for an isometric-perspective game. The explosions were robust, the tiny infantry were finely detailed and animated. It wasn't impossibly hard (although one would think so if they saw me play:) ).

Overall, for those who are into realistic RTS wargames, then Blitzkrieg just might be right for you! Try it today! And please - don't accidentally download the wrong thing! Like that Silent Storm game....

Maybe I'll try the correct game now.

For some reason the name rings a bell, I think I actually played it before. Not sure if it was on the SNES but I think I remember it from somewhere.

    Advice:
Do the Axis mission first, its a breeze compared to the Allied mission. At one point I had 10 Axis troops moving in on my position only 3 or 4 turns into the mission. Although I did get to take down 1 sniper that was REALLY **** me off, threw a nade onto the roof where he was standing, **** went flying off in a fine example of ragdoll physics

I love this game, I suck at strategy games but at least this one is forgiving. Although the demo does seem to run slower on AMD processors (people with similar specs to mine on Intel's can run it much better).

Waitaminute...what I'm gonna download is just a movie instead of a demo? Has the game gone retail already or what?

Your advice comes a bit late for me, TenSix. I tried the Allied mission first, and I gave up two hours later, completely infuriated and ready to break things because it was SO FRIGGING HARD. Now I'm going to try the Axis mission. Once I calm down.

*cough* never mind my above post. I decided to get off my keister and look for myself. Needless to say, I found the playable demo. But...heh...the video makes it look quite nice

Sorry about that, I added the download link to my posts.

And if you think the Allied mission was hard, try playing on Impossible mode :O That would have to be some form of torture or something.

    Back from playing it

In other news, I've disovered that my strategic muscle is a decidedly wimpy one indeed.

I couldn't beat the Axis mission. I got all my troops slaughtered. After I had ended that, I went on to the Allied mission. I guess if being pinned the crap down behind a burning truck within two minutes was the purpose of the map, then I surely rocked that map. Hardcore.

Of course if the purpose of the map was to defeat the evil Nazis, then I'll just go to my corner now and let the tears of frustration flow

Curse you game! I'll be back once I've composed myself and wiped the tears away.

Oh yeah - and for those of you who havn't checked it out yet, do it. Now. I recommend this game wholeheartedly.

Having now played the Axis, I like this game. The Jagged Alliance guys could take some lessons from it, although I do have a few beefs.

1: No way of targeting specific areas on the body, at least not that I could find. This makes me a sad Gadzuko ( ), as close range headshots in JA2 were all I lived for. It would make the sniper much more useful as well.

2: Lack of realistic tactics. For instance, much of the benefit of a machine gun in real life comes from suppressive fire (shots aimed to hold the enemy back/keep their heads down, hence "suppressive") due to its inaccuracy. Unfortunately, that is useless in this game, as nearby gunfire has no effect on accuracy and doesn't cause a change in stance of the enemy. This makes machine guns much less useful than they could be.

3: Tactically inept AI. This is more of a reflection of the second complaint, as the AI doesn't have to use tactics that make sense.

4: Everyone in the game seems to have all the muscles of a 2 year old and is utterly incapable of throwing a grenade further than a couple of feet. I won't even get into the grenade blast radius.

Despite all of that, it's still a sharp-looking game, and I'll buy it even with those issues. I'm a bit of a realistic war buff, and the physics, destructible environments, etc. are wonderful. I just wish there was more to it under the hood.
