Were not alone, space is to big and theres bound to be another planet with the same atmosphere and living conditions etc... They may not be as smart or speak the same languages as us, or vice versa. But i believe there are some other lifeform out there.

Bear in mind that a planet, that would possibly have life on it, doesn't have to be like ours (living conditions...). Other type of planets produce different creatures. And yeah, I don't think we're alone either.

I don't think we are alone because there are trillions upon trillions of other planets out there, and its impossible for there to be so many but life only existing on our planet.

If we're the only planet with life on it in this entire universe i'd be suprised...

Given the amount of systems in this galaxy ALONE, that could have a planet the same as ours, the right distance from the sun etc, i'd say its a VERY remote chance that we'd be alone...

Hell, for all we know, there could be life out in Alpha Centuri (closest system to us for those that dont know. That said, its still about 6 light years away....)

Pffft, lightspeed is easy to make. Just make a giant light bulb into a ship.. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    6 Years at such a great speed.. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I saw the news ages ago and they said by time we found out how to achieve lightspeed, this generation will be dead. E.g. people ages 10 - 100

The universe is just too big for us to be alone.

Not a chance that we are.

    We're alone.

To describe the reasons why would start an intense debate that would close this thread. I'll do us all a favor and not go into details.

Personally, i'm indifferent. Generally, i tend to believe in what i can see or what can be proven etc, while it's not proven that there's life on other planets, the sheer immense size of the universe and the fact that it's 99.99999999999% unexplored at the LEAST makes it an impossibility to be ruled out. Well, that's what i believe at least.

I'll make now just a brief comment because guns of navarone is about to begin but my dads opinion is that UFO's are here and Bush is an alien. Saddam was an alien from another planet and they were in war.

It's scary how much sense my dad makes :/

If there is life out there and we find. We find it to be threatning then we will kill it. <3 human nature. Guess the universe is big for a reason. So no two races can find each other and start a war :/

Can we get this moved to Discussion?

I'd say since space and time are infinite (we think) right now we may very well be the only planet with sentient beings. Think about the conditions necessary for life and the chance even in such an inconceivably large space that a heat source and planet are at the exact proximity to each other with some means of creating life. Since a year to us is just a spec in the timeline of the universe long after our planet is destroyed, which may be in billions of billions of years, life might start up at some other point in the history of the universe. I’d say its very remote that there is something out there right now. Maybe at some other point in time there was. Maybe there will be again after we are gone but time outlasts us and the odds are unlikely that there is other life out there now.

Well, I don't know if we're alone in the universe, but seeing as the universe is either infinate, or just really REALLY big, it would be a big waste of space if we were.

The planets/sun/etc dont have to be EXACTLY the same.. Just a planet with a distance far enough away so it aint too warm, and close enough so it aint too cold, and a few other conditions, would be enough fo life...

That said, there may well be forms of life out there somewhere that dont need the same set of conditions that we do, so, in true Sci-Fi movie style, could look completely different to us... Im just going out on a wild guess here.

Saying we are alone, especially with the amount of space we have to play with here, is, imo, pretty dumb..

Then again, thats my opinion, and we all have different views now dont we?

LMAO!!! ... omg that was good....

anyways, i agree with most people here. we can't be alone. the sheer size of the universe alone should be reason enough. i don't believe that the life is as advanced as us, nor do i think the probability of it even being civilized is very high. i was thinkin more along the lines of singular celled to fungus.

    but hey, anything's possible.
