<div class="IPBDescription">just a test</div> every mapper has the urge to do something new, and this idea hit me few days ago:
there's this old indiana-jones-like temple where our beloved scientists have found
ancient phase technology (or something) and significant nanite readings.
So naturally they have to pump that temple with cool techs and flashy lights.
But as always, SOMETHING GOES WRONG!!! MWHAAHAHHAhahahah ... and TSA frontiersmen
are yet again jumping to new adventure.

and here's couple of pics of the ready room i made

Redesign those join team signs. I mean a techy green scan, with sci fi font and obviously some sort of light projecting hologram thing? Not in a temple. How about rusted signs, or just subtle hints from the texturing?
If you want some rusted signs done, loads of people here (me included) are probably abel to make them for you.

Nice stuff there! Not very NS though, but it's some good mapping nonetheless. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Very Nice.

great Idea. a Temple has infinite ideas that can be used

    have a Lava pit that people are lowered into as a sacrafice <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ( what a rip <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )

A temple-scifi style map is actually something that I have though about doing for a while now. I got the idea, after playing Metrod Prime.
I don't know if you got the idea from the place, but it surely looks really nice. But I think you should try to add a bit more NS-feeling to it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

lol the cs map for indiana jones is so great with the lava pit where people are lowered as a sacrifice and the room that traps you in and the spikes slowly close in on you, it sucks forfghting but really great to fool around and get trapped and die a horrible death!, hehe other than that i will dl your map when it comes out and beg Sirus to put it on SunnyD linuxmonster (if it looks as great as your rr)

that's what i'm trying, but it's kinda tricky to mix tech and temple. altough i have some visions <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

You could do some breaks in the walls with pipes showing and wires, heck you could give the idea that the stone is fake and its covering up the pipes and wires.

i really like this. It may not meet official standards just because of the theme but damn i'd love to play a map like that.
  • boobs!boobs! Old-School Competitor Join Date: 2002-11-13 Member: 8504Members
this is seriously a nice looking map (tho its just a RR) i think if you played ur cards right and added a lot more sci-fi to the theme it could be a great map. keep it up bro (and yeah i think if you were to add non sci-fi join team sign it would look better.)

    Nice looking temple.
Although i suggest changing the backstory a bit.
Maybe the temple is from an old civilisation which was long gone and the marine found some useful minerals in there.

Or it was from an ancient alien civilization that created humanity as a race of slaves and moves from planet to planet with human slaves to use up all of the natural rescources with their alien phase technology. (I just watched stargate <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

look what Im saying: this screens look B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.
I like the style. I dont think this wont fit ns unless u fix some things. maybe think about a storyline. in starcraft there were ancient temple and buildings in the maps, too. so why not in ns.
<u>storyline</u>: marines are scanning a planet surface for alien creatures, when they get a positive signal withing this lost temple area. troups were send out to make it alien-clean. but when the troups arrieve they quickly realise, that the environment is much more marine-unfriendly than the kharra. another bonus is, that the temple is the perfect base for alien infestation.

sure, some traps would be nice but they shouldnt be deadly for a healthy marine or alien. just to remember where they are. and there should be some kind of weird, unreadable icons that covers severall areas.
if u add details as marines have bombed through a massive wall to get in the complex an builded their base with equipment they took from their dropship... custom resnozzles... it could get one of the real kickass maps.
I for my part dont care if it fits 100% the ns style, as long as its connected to ns in some kind. good luck <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Sweet, dude. That's just perfect for atmospheric areas, too.

I feel like writing a backstory for this...

    "Excavation area #0458 mission log:

Day 1: Basic timeline scan completed, the ruins are ancient. Strange symbols not found in our database cover the walls. Whoever built this place were technologically above anything we have ever seen. We have detected nanite activity and, though different from the system we use, we have been able to use them to set up a base of operations.

Day 2: Excavation teams have started their work. Sectors #07 and #11 have been blocked off by debris, though we have not been able to find out what caused the cave-ins. We have started trying to decipher the symbols based on ancient egyptian hieroglyphic writing.

Day 3: Started clearing the corridor leading to sector #11. The symbols still remain a mystery.

Day 4: The science team is starting to make progress. The carvings say that this was a research station, though we cannot yet tell what the "ancients", in lack of an official term, were experimenting on.

Day 5: One of the members of the crew that went to explore the newly-cleared sector #11 has disappeared. Strangely enough, we detected a disturbance in the nanogrid that closely resembled the ones caused by the presence of the Kharaa in our system. The science team is working on this.

Day 6: More people disappearing. Two members of excavation team #4, both around sector #11, and one of the scientists translating the symbols. More disturbances in the nanogrid. Sector #11 has been declared out of bounds.

Day 7: The science team has translated a text that describes a race of aliens of an unknown origin. The descriptions are an almost exact match to the ones given by the people involved in the Sanjii incident. It seems that we have found out what the ancients were researching - the Kharaa.

Day 8: The disturbances in the nanite system are getting severe, and even more people are missing. State of emergency declared. Contacted the Frontiersmen, who immediately dispatched a squad.

    -- End of log"

    Just another backstory idea:

Archiologists on some random backwater planet found signs of an ancient civilisation, upon exploring the entrance to the temple they found carvings and pictograms that look very similar to the Kharaa. Contact with the archiologists was lost shortly afterwards.

    TSA to the rescue.

I think Mart wins, with the kharaa heiroglyphics.

Very neat look you have there, and I think that a mixture of old temple with future tech could look very good.

hmm maybe to keep the sci-fi feeling you may add a section (small one just for a hive and a couple res points) that you reach going trought some destroyed door/wall/gate.. Dunno if you all get the point like if the temple had been built over the remains of a base (tech = God)

    Well you get the point 2:32 AM here <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
