Ok, mage, sorry I didnt have time to answer your PM while I was online yesterday, didnt have much time. But still I think we have enough special entries. I have to agree with revenge that we should stick to getting people in by IPs. We're getting close to picking up more civilians than trained squadmembers. Sorry about it, but at least you'll have some better training

Without anyone noticing, a dimension void opens in the spaceship. Suddenly, mage is standing by the IP in base, with memory altered accordingly:)

And while we're at it. Venmoch, we have to get one thing straight. The TSA is an organization formed by several authorities with access to long-distance travel. They are there to fight corruption and keep things clean. Naturally, they will have elite groups, and they probably know quite a lot about the human-controlled parts of space. The frontiersmen were created by the TSA. They rely on a completely different tactical doctrine, which means quick and efficient elite training for everyone. It also means that everyone get the same teamwork training, everyone pass trough the commander training, and no one in the field has higher rank than anyone. Black ops is stuff that's hidden, shadow work. There's no reason the frontiersmen would have such a thing. So, either you are a special ops guy from the "human" world, or you are a frontiersman. But you're not both.

You arrive in the nano-sludge storage room. The room is long, and the roof is tall. You're standing in the one end, and along the roof, huge tanks store the nano-sludge used on board this ship. Along the wall on your right, supply lines connect the tanks with the rest of the ship, and a line of 6 extraction nodes are placed in the middle. The room has 5 maintenance access doors, one you're standing in, another is in the opposite end of the room, the last three run along the left wall of the room. Just under the roof on the left wall is 5 vents equally spread along the room

"Ok, time to secure this place. Watch the wall on your right, it's only a metre or two of nano-hull to empty space. If we can keep the room though, we'll get a nice boost from those sludge outlets, since the flow is often less restricted in the main storage room."
*places a turret factory in the middle of the room, along with an armoury.*

Rogue Platoon is made up of Frontiersmen that are outstanding in certain fields, either that or they have some useful skill. They are a part of the TSA not any other sort of human force. That is why Ransom can only take orders and give advice. He can't run the show neither would he want to its not his job/call whatever. And he is not Black Ops, Ransom was a Frontiersmen and a very good one. Thats why the TSA chose him for Rogue Platoon. OK so he isn't in the Frontiersmen anymore but he was one before he was "enlisted" (Read pretty much forced) into Rogue Platoon. Hes had the training, knows the doctrine but even though he is in technically a different organisation he still holds true to the things he learned as a Frontiersmen. To him just because he a Rogue Platoon member doesn't mean he stopped being a Frontiersmen.

And now a short In Character post just so I don't waste a whole post on an off-topic thing

Ok that kinda fits... There's a minor time line gripe I have with what know of Rogue Platoon so far, but I don't want to get petty on gripe on such little details. It'd make more sense to me if Rogue Platoon recruited from all TSA divisions and not just frontiersmen, and if they did mostly non-alien involved missions (with exceptions, like your current one which landed you here).

As long as Rogue Platoon is still TSA but not frontiersman then it falls within the scope of the backstory, plus it opens up some ground for inter-departmental rivallry (my jurisdiction, your jurisdiction type stuff ). It would also justify why you are carrying standard TSA weaponry. Special ops, does tend to imply black ops, however an elite squad of TSA soldiers is believable I guess... The TSA are basically police. SWAT teams are part of the police, the coastguard might be too (not sure on that), but hitmen and secret agents are not. If Rogue Platoon is the equivalent of a SWAT team member I guess it does fit in the end... Kinda...

EDIT: However while I am at it, a SWAT team member telling a traffic cop how to write out a speeding ticket does NOT make sense. Even if the SWAT guy used to be a traffic cop, the current traffic cops should know their job. To have somebody that has been out of the frontiersmen for a long time and who was only IN the frontiersmen for one brief mission to be telling the current frontiersmen that the greeny slimey stuff that looks vaguely organic and smells horrible is bacteria just feels weird. Theoretically we should be telling you this stuff, not the other way around...

Look, I still can't get it to make sense that the TSA take the best of the frontiersmen. The frontiersmen are fighting the aliens, they wouldnt want to give up their best soldiers. Either you are a frontiersman (maybe coming from the TSA, but still a frontiersman), or you are a TSA marine (never was in the frontiersmen). You also have to remember that the battle against the aliens is young. You wouldnt have time to get into the war against the aliens and out again. Frontiersmen barely existed for more than a year, assuming they started at the release of NS.

As for the two hours, I wouldnt count on getting two hours of peace if I were you. Remember when you play NS, games that are that long are rare, and games where a team member can sit in the base brewing stuff that long are even harder. So, brew away, but you might want to be quicker than that . Revenge pretty much hit the nail on the head. Rogue Platoon are like SWAT in the way they take people they will find useful for them out of all existing areas of the TSA. As long as your good they will approch you to join.

The reason Ransom knows a large amount of stuff about the Kharra is that he's been taught it out in the field with other members (Primarilly Borzov, his commander who has been in the conflict since the start and wasn't a Frontiersman. He was a standard TSA officer who happened to be one of the first people to combat the Kharra and as a result knows his stuff. He then teaches this stuff to the people under his command (Using practical examples because well they would be in the middle of a mission anyway) as the infomation may help them at some point in the distant future. Think of Borzov as Rogue Platoon's Grandad thats full of useful information that he likes to tell you liberally. Borzov has been in the field and learnt all this stuff himself and therefore passes it on to anyone who wants to listen. (No Borzov won't turn up in this RP, way too much work for me)

Xect made the point about timelines that I was avoiding merely because I was picking out so many other holes in your back story... I imagine you'll be quite a good addition to this roleplay, but sometimes I feel slotting your character into this story as he is right now is similar to trying to put the square peg in the round hole...

The problem isn't Ransom's character, but rather all the little things that are incorrect with his backstory that all add up into one big thing... Too many litte things directly contradict the predefined and easily found NS backstory. Artistic license is all good in single-author stories, but when you have dozens of people involved in a single story as we do here, it's important that you don't contradict the publically available reference material, or things will stop making sense... It's fine talk at length about things that haven't already been defined... Dea's parents for instance don't contradict anything in the NS storyline, and they don't follow much from in it either. They are in the gray area where it's perfectly fine to experiment and dabble. I'm trying to make Ransom fit in my mind, but there is just far too much that really doesn't add up.

What's the big deal with simply saying he is TSA, but hasn't been part of the frontiersmen before? All this stuff he knows about the kharaa is general info passed on by Borzov, and perhaps a few encounters with em as well... Ofcourse that brings up questions about borzov as well, but seeing as he aint appearing in this rp as you said yourself, I'll happily drop the subject on that one.

The problem with my SWAT analogy is that I also compared the frontiersman as traffic cops. Why would the real world police call in SWAT teams to book somebody for parking on the footpath?
