<b>You read my mind Khaim, my thoughts exactly.</b>

<span style='color:00FF00'>"Hmm I don't know what good poision will do you against these kharaa... Weren't we taught that the real aliens were tiny little bacteria spreading out through the ship and fighting the nanos? And that all the big organisms we can see are merely the bacteria reacting to human presence and defending itself accordingly by grouping up and massing into bigger shapes?"

*Looks at the pile of skulk bodies in the corner, slowly melting away into the ground as the nanites furiously attempt recycle every last drop of bacterium into even more nanites*

"We know that those things don't breathe or eat, and so I doubt they'd have an actual beating heart, or that the blood would flow around their body enough for the poison to actually spread... I was under the impression that all the green goo that splattered all over the walls when we shot them was us merely chipping away chunks of bacteria, not actual blood..."

*Starts walking towards the hall leading towards his waypoint at the resource node*

"You know, we are only half the battle here. The real war is happening between the alien bacteria and our nanites as we speak. All around us billions of tiny robots are duking it out with just as many tiny single-celled organisms... Each skulk body over there would be releasing billions of live bacterium each... Just be thankful that there are so many nanites still functioning normally on this ship that all traces of the bacterium will be gone within a few more minutes, with what little the nanites can recycle going straight into our resource pool...

*Gets to the entrance of the hallway and realises that nobody is following him, so he stops and waits*

"Uh... There is NO way in hell I'm going out there on my own... You guys coming or what?"</span>

"Can I venture my opinion? A bunch of college friends decided they wanted to make something, so they yankee doodled into a cup and amalgamated their DNA, which was put into a surrogate, thus borning dea. How close am I?"

"Also, The Kharaa would have to have some kind of veins. If they're entirely made of bacteria and the nanosludge is giving them energy, some type of organ would have to make sure the nanosludge is being equally distributed among the bacteria, otherwise, the organism would die. Anyhow, i'm not too sure conventional poison would work against them. Their pysiology must be quite different. What's poisonous to us may not be poisonous to them. I wonder how large the bacterium is compared to a terran bacterium. It would be interesting if it resembled a general eukaryote...whatever, thinking about this isn't going to keep me alive."

    <b>Woo! Story time! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--></b>

<span style='color:00FF00'>"Ok... Hives... They were a bit brief about that during lectures... But if I remember the the story being told during the lecture correctly... Not so long ago a ship's away team found and killed a skulk, and brought the body back onto their ship. The skulk was definately dead, but everything it touched became infected by a mass of bacteria."

*Notices the 5 people moving towards him, and decides it's safe enough to venture out, knowing that the others could easily follow using the minimap, and that everybody would still hear him over the voice comms*

"Unfortunately the nanites did very little at that point, because they are programmed only to react when these single-celled invaders spread beyond a certain point. If they didn't do that then not only would you find ships running out of power a few hours after leaving port, but you'd find that the nanos would climb all over you and start eating all the healthy bacteria that lives in your armpits, eye lashes, intestines and then moving onto "fighting off" every single cell in your body, basically killing every living thing on the ship. Unfortunately this at the same time allows the kharaa bacteria to slowly spread out through the ship, creating a very thin film over all nearly every part of the ship."

*Starts walking down the corridor. Holsters his welder and brings up his LMG, keeping it held in a ready position. Staying slightly behind Boggle, up along the opposite wall. He checks around for vents and hallways as he moves.*

"In a similar fashion to how termites build their 20 feet tall nests in the sand, this bacteria instinctively concentrates in 3 different areas of the ship. Usually because either water or heat is abundant in those areas. It's at around this time that things really begin to pick up their pace. The nanite defensive grid kicks in, alerting the ships crew to the unusually high levels of some strange for of bacteria it's never encountered before, and it starts going about attempting to cleanse the ship of the infection."

*Slows his breathing and tries to keep his mind on the conversation to distract him from how afraid he is right about now*

"The kharaa responds to the hostile human threat by channeling as much energy as it can through the bacterium networks into one of the 3 concentrated areas in order to produce a hive, so that warrior lifeforms may also be produced. The unprepared crew gets ripped apart by an army of skulks, and as soon as the bacterium realises that hostile humans are gone, the spawned warriors dissolve back single-celled organisms so to maximise the amount of bacteria actively fighting off the nanites. Should more humans come, like us, a new hive is spawned somewhere, and the bacterium is once again forced to divide its efforts between fighting nanites and fighting humans..."</span>

*Looks at him and shakes head.*
    "343, lemme see that."
    *Inspects magazine*
"You overloaded the number of bullets that can be placed in it. Thus, the springs are pushing the bullets out, which don't allow the magazine to be firmly secured in your weapon. There were cases of this happening before, and the weapon just wouldn't fire. Consider yourself lucky to be living in this day and age, everything's user-friendly..."

<b>Nobody, because we're not gonna get attacked while xect is away. I know it's very poor form to script world events in a roleplay around the characters playing, but considering that xect is the DM I think it'd be okay to make an exception here</b>

<span style='color:00FF00'>"Well sparks wanted to know Zooby, I was only answering him. And I suppose that could work in theory sparks, but I'm not quite sure how you could stop the bacterium from feeling threatened when billions upon billions of angry nanites are slowly consuming it..."

*Thinks about it for a few moments*

"Actually... You may be on to something... If we can somehow reprogram the nanites to some how sedate a bacterium cell before consuming it, it should effectively stop the bacteria from not only attack our nanites but from spawning any of the larger lifeforms..."</span>

    *chuckles*
"If I recall correctly, there was something in the last microbiology bulletin about massive funding being poured into researching what makes the Kharaa tick, and how to stop em ticking. They were working along much the same lines as you're thinking of, Revenge, but they'd kill about two million bacteria - bugger all - before the rest in the vicinity evolved an immunity to the poison they were using. I think right now they're working on having the nanites release a small burst of radiation. Seems to be effective so far, but they haven't worked out how to do it without building nanites around radioactives that last for about eight seconds."

<b>We basically agreed right after xect left that we wouldn't find any aliens, and we wouldn't build anything (or should I say, nobody disagreed). Combat is a BIG no no without an active level-headed DM, and honestly I wanna keep things as low key as possible till xect gets back.

That's why I had my character shoot down the double res node idea. I just didn't want to use OOC text to do it, and I had hoped the hints would be enough. That's also why we're taking so long to get the node, the longer we take doing something, the less it seems like we've been standing around doing nothing. But then again, we all JUST left the base, so we haven't been walking for long at all...</b>
