2 Hive Lockdown Still Is Viable!

if you have a good marine team
Today i commed an NS_hera game where we sucessfully completed and held a 2 hive lockdown for a LONG TIME

It is also to note that the Medarmory mod was on this server.....and i had an extremely obedient squad of marines

Basically our strat was to weld open cargo, take hera entrance, dropped phase to archiving and dropped phase to data core delta

From there built 6 turrets at base, 6 turrets at data core, and 6 turrets at archiving... plus an obs at each location.

The problem was we only could hold main base res and cargo, as the two hive locations res towers were far away.

Basically my marines listened and we held anywhere from 1-3 res for nearly 45 minutes as my marines eventually lost cargo.

I teched up level 3 armor and weapons and fended off MANY co-ordinated hive assaults, including one building on phase, and one mass building in hive room, and several multiple onos rushes

The key to this was the phases and marines listening.. if i yelled phase, 4-5 people did so IMMEDIATELY, and several more came soon... from ANYWHERE on the map they just DID IT. This allowed us to keep the hives for nearly an hour as i teched up and rebuilt what was destroyed.

From there we sieged out cargo (had about 200 res worth of alien structures in it.) and capped it so we now had 2 res nodes.

From cargo we sieged out processing and holoroom. and capped upper processing and the two holoroom res.

They mass attacked holoroom.. but once again my faithful marines phased to take out the skulk/gorge/onos rush.

After we capped the holo and farmed it up, and capped data core alpha.. then.. and ONLY THEN.. did i give out heavies and upgraded guns (i had given out welders and a few gl before to deal with lerks or other minor problems)

From there i got our whole team equipped.. fended off a last double hive rush by the aliens, and rushe and ended the game..

This was on the G4B2S server, and the alien team imho wasnt bad... it was just our marines used the tech we had.. and followed this strat

Expand....Secure.....Expand...Secure

Even tho the res was 9-1 for nearly a half an hour, we were able to win because marines listened to the comm... and though i got many suggestions, and requests, i diddnt feel pressured because the marines had confidence in me.

Why did i post this? to illustrate one thing.. TEAMWORK can beat anything

Sure the aliens DID use teamwork also

3 onos rushes were common... but the ability to get my entire team through any phase gate at will, plus the turrets i had up to delay them till the team was through the phase allowed us to bea the alien's..

While this only in a small way illustrates the battle as it really was, it was really a comeback for us, as we barely held those hives from co-ordinated rushes for nearly an hour before going offensive again.

And 6 turrets imho is NOT turret farming...

G4B2S is a good server. One of the servers I learned to play on.

And I agree. Teamwork can beat anything. Good job comming, and good job to all of those marines. You deserved your win.

2 hive lockdowns = own. It doesn't let the aliens get thier turret breaking abilities.

Marines + Teamwork = own. Teamwork is required on the marines, and if you have enough, marines will kill anything and everything that comes your way.

Yes, but please, PLEASE do not resort to it, it is boring as hell for Aliens to play. It slows the game down, and flat out sucks.

agreed, I have come back from this strat with a good alien team bs a good marine team. It tool a long time. But once we got 1 hive the other fell quickly. It was about a 2.5 hour game. Very boring for about 2 hours of it.

I've seen a few very exciting games against 2 hive lockdowns. The key is not to have sensory chambers first for the Kharaa.. otherwise it is a boring slaughter. What chamber did they get first Jason?
  • SDJasonSDJason Join Date: 2003-05-29 Member: 16841Members
they had sensory... but what i diddnt put in my initial post was that they had data core alpha up.... we put the phase up in the back corner initially.. and took out the hive and then built turrets... they had d chambers and sensory chambers for the entire game

While it may seem boring.. i did not resort to turret farming.. they nearly got the hives.. and we lost phases several times.. but our teamwork allowed us to fight off the alien assaults of cara onos.. redemption onos...

While i agree that it may be boring for aliens.. it wasnt hopeles.. and them letting us get thier hive seconds after it was completed was thier fatal flaw.... we capitalized on the one error they made all game and used it to effectively win...

    ~Jason

P.S. it was mad fun to comm.. and mad fun to play.. and i believe the aliens had fun too.. since it wasnt a completely hopeless situation and i DIDDNT turret farm.

And G4B2S has the best bunch of regulars ive ever seen... except for possibly Absolut.. which i havent seen around much any more....

Boring for the aliens to play? So what? You don't like losing or something? Hey getting steamrolled by HA trains ain't fun either. Guess we shouldn't do that either.

Played alien in one of these matches. The marines held holoroom, and we had 3 hives at one point, but we were only two people willing to spend res on building stuff. They didnt tell us if they heard someone building in the hive either, so suddenly they had the biggest turretfarm in Archiving. So they kept on setting up a million sieges instead of just hunting down the hive.

Our game "only" lasted 1 hour+, but it was boring as hell, and it sucks knowing you would have won if you had 2 players that knew how to use onos' abilities, and not hide behind the healing gorge(me) when at full health.

Anyway, if you have a team that can do this, hurry take the hives down, or the aliens WILL quit.

Difference in prolonging a game that is already won and using HA to avoid being gassed and eaten by skulks.

    hahahaha they had sensory

hope those aliens learn that movement is the best choice on publics from that experience.

tbh if they let u lock down two hives without lots of res i think they must have had lots of onos saving greedy aliens.

a average alien team would spread, get lots of rts, and be able to onos within 10 mins, before u could put down extra turrets. if they had chosen sens theyd also have put sens up at another hive to make it hard to lock down.

this will work 1/10 of the time. it wont for the rest.

Certainly the key here is good Marines. I had a great Marine team yesterday and we had two hives taken with PGs and sentries within 5-10 minutes of gamestart. Then the whole lot of them raided it and took one back a bit later right under my nose, so it's not like you're damning the aliens to a game of boredom if you do that: it's all about teamwork.
