Accessing Lift Vent

ns_bast, without using the lift.
For those of you who dont know, in the old version of bast access to the little vent where the lift at marine start was really easy from jumping onto the ladder and then into the vent. This is still possible though a little more abstract than some players may know how. As I see this vent as very crucial to rush and sneak attacks in all stages of the game I shall now explain briefly how you can get into the vent from marine start with the 3 crucial properties of:
1. No health damage is taken.
2. Accessed from the very top of the lift to the vent for speed.
3. 100% success rate.

Ok, so this is really simple but so effective and relatively unknown. Here goes:

For the sake of practice I recommend using private LAN server till you get the hang of it (should take no longer than 5 minutes, hopefully if Ive explained this right on the first try.)

[1] Position yourself near the lift shaft making sure the lift is down.
[2] Face and run towards the farthest ladder (the one near the vent).
[3] On reaching the edge of the lift shaft jump then hold crouch (you may have to circle-jump or circle-strafe jump to make it though I dont think its necessary.) [Check A: You land successfully on the ladder without dmg and not the bar in the middle]
[4] Go down the ladder as quickly as possible to jump below the vent.
[5] Use forward movement and right strafing to move up the ladder again. Then aim you movement so that you can leave the ladder slightly above the middle of the vent at an angle roughly 30-40 degrees.
[6] Use and hold the forward+right strafe to move off the ladder, then just before youre about to hit/pass the vent hold crouch. Also look into a rough bottom left area of the vent.
[7] If the height of the strafe (at the vent) was correct you should now be in a dark reddish tunnel. ;/

Using this method I managed to get into the vent 15 times in consecutive succession, apart from that I cannot vouch for its accuracy.

Are these the two vents at the lift that goes down to the big door?

In that case......... usually I just get on the lift, crouch at the edge, and walk into the vent when the lift passes it.

of course... i just send the elevator down.. crouch near the wall.. hold my forward key and enter the vent as the elevator goes down... works on the way up too...

And it doesent take 5 minutes to learn either....

I think the point of ZiGGY^ is that this is a method for marines who want to be über elite and get into that vent as fast as possible.

But then,it would be faster if you used the lift at the start of the round, plus if you do you'll need a partner behind you to close the thing, just in case any skulk wants to check on the locks....

in the v 1.x version using the vent without using the lift was essential, it remains true in 2.0

What is the point of steps 1-4?

as far as i understand it people are stupid, but not stupid enough to neglect the appropriate jumping angles necessary to hit the ladder in the appropriate areas.

I never saw anyone get into the vent just using the ladder in 1.0x, I thought I was the only one.

I have tried a couple of times to strafe across and up on the ladder and get in the vent and failed, I guessed I just didn't have the height right. So I assume this is what you're tlaking about? You should really include a demo as it's almost impossible to understand what you are trying to describe.

That's actually possible, but I'm not sure if it is the same method that Ziggy is describing here. It could have been explained alot better if it is.

    Clicky here for a demo.

EDIT: lol - demos are almost identical

Ah figured it out, it seems the trick is to make sure you move into the vent sideways. I made a demo. Is this how you do it Ziggy?

cba to dl and run that at this time, basically the look at bottom left part of the vent should compensate for any need to think of side strafing as Id already specified.

Quite a simple manouvre. And yes, looking parallel to the vent entrance and holding crouch guarantees that you don't fall. It doesn't even matter where you jump off the ladder. It has worked for me from way up, and from right next to the vent.
