<div class="IPBDescription">Sound familiar? Big update :D</div> Re-did the whole top section, touched up the grip, fixed a heap of double faces (manually. it was not pleasant)

only problem is, its horribly high poly. about 1400, and i still have to add the battlesight.

    yeah, verry nice model indeed
i believe we already had that somewhere, but no trigger guard? <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

Could save a few polies, by removing those holes in the trigger and have a transparent texture with the holes on instead. Just a poly-saving tip.

    Milkshape 3d - £20
    3D Studio Max- £3000ish

For the extra £2980 quid, I would hope it would "own" Milkshape...

well i like 3dSMax, but i'm working on my laptop atm, and most of the time i am just doing peewees for other models, so max isn't necessary. besides, for making this sort of stuff i don't need the advanced features of 3dsm.

just to explain a few points:

there is no trigger gaurd because it has been filed off for quicker trigger access.
the trigger will change, but i wanted to get the idea across. i stole the look from SVI 'cause it is just that cool.
that little bar down the side is just a thing to set the weapon apart a bit more from the DE. it may also change.
there is still quite a bit to be done to the model, in the way of poly reduction and re-shaping. i'm hoping to get it down to about 800, but this may mean doing nasty things like removing unseen faces, but i'd rather do that after the animations are done (i can't animate, mesh or skin, btw)

i'm happy with it for the moment, so it will sit around for a while till i have time to work on it again. thnx for the constructive criticism. if you want it that much i may be motivated to get my **** in gear and get it to skin/animation stage soon-ish.

depends on watcha workin on, because of the low number of buttons, easy scrolling and zooming the viewports [just gotta hold down one key u already got your hand on], shortcuts for the most important actions and the ability to flaten to x, y or z axis milkshape is a great program that allows u to model several models muuch faster than with max [and i know what im talking about, i also model with max, for a year or even longer].. furthermore milkshape takes like 2secs to load, 3dmax like 2min

3dsmax is powerful, but since i can actually use milkshape3d i prefer it

    in 3dsmax i can draw a box and thats about it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Vey very very nice. I would use this when released with a nice skin... Poly count is fine though, if it cant be handled by a new graphics card for £40 then it will be able to handle it.

That sight is very pretty. I think it might look better without the LAM on it though (but then I just don't understand the obsession with LAM modules).
  • KaineKaine Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1096Members, Constellation
its not a LAM!!!! its a tac light!! (thats a weapon-mounted torch for the uninitiated.)

Agreed... especially with the filed-off trigger guard, this is clearly a weapon meant to be used quickly and indiscriminantly. Not one you take time to aim through a sight, or take on a slow cautious sweep through a dark room.
