post yours and why.
I know this isn't a novel idea, but I just got out of reading/posting in the FF7 thread, and I wanna hear what other ppl say about favorite games of all time :> I did a search for the keyword 'favorite' and came up negative on favorite games, so I'm startin' a topic...

edit: maybe post your age, too -- I'm going on 23, and if I were 16, I probably wouldn't know what 4 out of the 5 games I listed were...

My top5 go something like this:
1) Chrono Trigger
2) Ultima Underworld 2
3) FF6
4) Ultima 7: Serpent Isle
5) NS/AHL/other HL mods =>

The key factors are memorability and immersiveness... I'll never forget CT (hence my sig), and Ultima Underworld was incredible for how flawless its world was. It was a year before DOOM and even months before Wolfenstein 3-D, and its engine let you look up and down, jump, had locational damage, physics, projectiles and melee, stats, and most importantly, a plot that just pulled me in and made me forget I wasn't actually the Avatar Why oh why was it so forgotten and the much less sophisticated DOOM genre took off... it was the Morrowind of its day, only several times better, considering what else was out at the time...

NS is an extremely boring game and OBVIOUSLY is a BLATANT CS rip-off. I don't know WHAT possessed me to put the game on this list!

They don't make games the way they used to ... *sigh*

Well my favourite games generally change depending on what i'm playing and what mood i'm in. This is my current favourites list and also some of my old favourites in no particular order. [EDIT] Oh yeah, i'm 20 years old, been playing games my whole life. [/EDIT]

Final Fantasy VII:
This is, without a doubt, my favourite game of all time. I dedicated so much time to this masterpiece of storytelling. It has lovable characters, in depth story, excellent character development and, for it's time, stunning CGI footage. I bought a PSX for the sole reason of playing this game, and i never bought another game for it either.

Morrowind:
I've been playing this near obsessively recently. The freedom it gives you is amazing you can do so much and the visuals (Even now a little old.) are still beautiful. It has a fantastic experience system and the story is so disgustingly detailed. The ability to customise your character to look how you want is also a great feature of the game too.

Natural Selection:
Well, the game we all love. I've played this obsessively, i've attempted to involve myself in as much of the game as i can, be that the community, clans, playing it, mapping, textures, skins and so on. I love this game, it still manages to entertain me even in the bleakest of times and i hope so much that this game continues to evolve into a new, and better, beast.

Zelda 3: A Link To The Past:
Fantastic story, cute visuals and an all around fun game made this such an experience to me when i bought it back in 1743 when it was released. I still play it these days every now and then and i still love it, i've finished it a multitude of times but it still holds an appeal to me. It's such a shame where the series has gone.

Super Probotector / Contra III: The Alien Wars:
One of the first platform shooters that i really enjoyed (Along with Abuse.), great biomechanical visuals, cool robots and lots of guns, this was just all out fun. Again, it's a shame what happened to the Contra series with the latest 3D installment.

Quake:
Many people attribute DOOM to bringing FPS games to the world (Whilst not entirely accurate.), Quake took DOOM by the horns and made it into an entirely new beast. Boasting revolutionary graphics and fast paced multiplayer fun, this game was just that... fun. While the single player lacked everything the mod scene took it to another level. The Quake mod scene was the first one for me to get into and the massive amounts of customisations released was amazing and it kept my interest for literally years. This will always remain a big part in my gaming history, the game that took FPS' to a new level.

NARC:
This was an arcade game i played so much in my youth (Back in the 80's at some point.). Basically it was a side scroller where you played a motorbike-helmetted drugs officer and your only purpose is to kill drug dealers and take their drugs. Simple, but immensely fun. Even as aged as it was it was using digitised graphics in a great well and had a fantastic amount of gore... it's all good.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater *:
These games have done nothing but continue to entertain me as the series has gone on. It started off fun but now it's ascended to a new level. THPS 4 is now a bit dated, and the new installment on the way, but i still play it with friends, getting a multiplayer going on H.O.R.S.E. is still massive amounts of fun. Let's see what the next one turns out like, but if the previous sequels are anything to go by, it's going to be a hit.

    EDIT 2:

Another World / Out Of This World & Flashback:
These games were the pinnacle of platforming gaming for me. Unique, great looking visuals and fun gameplay. There's not much i can say about these that most of you don't already know, they are absolute classics and you should all go play them now.

EDIT 3: Damn i'm getting forgetful.

Sierra Adventure Games:
Along with the Lucasarts adventure games i spent most of my time playing Sierra's great tiles. Games like Gabriel Knight (Only number 1, the other two sucked.), Space Quest 1-6, Leisure Suit Larry 1-3 5-7, Kings Quest 4-8 and the early Police Quest games. As opposed to Lucasarts Sierra's titles covered slightly more adult topics (Especially Leisure Suit Larry.) and more adult humour. The Space Quest games left me in stitches of laughter, the Police Quest games covered the more serious side and Gabriel Knight... damn, that game was just dark. Also, Tim Curry's voice was to die for.

Lucasarts Adventure Games:
The godfathers of point-and-click adventure games churned out classic after classic with the Monkey Island series, Sam n Max, Full Throttle and many more. With in-depth stories, great characters, great humour and the inability to die they are definately legendary games. Monkey Island is a game that has been played by any self respecting gamer and to this day is still funny and still probably one of the best games ever made. My mobile ring tone is from Monkey Island.

Sorry, i've ranted on too far, i won't post any more.

Half Life - Great mods... Excellent replay, huge community. Great base engine with a slew of spin-off games (that are free!)
Deus Ex- Immsersive consipiracy theory game in which you can rule, follow, etc. Cool upgrades, complex story, great overall game.
Prince of Persia 1/2 (haven't played 3)- The first non-educational video game i've ever played. Since my dad brought it home from Software Etc. about 10 years ago it plauged me. I finished it years later after figuring out how to install it (and not play from disk) and had a great time. A great puzzle adventure with excellent animations.

    hm.

tales of phantasia for SNES because it had the most innovative and square-independent (gawddamnit) system EVER. ehhvahh. the story was great, the game was ridiculously long and engrossing, and the combat was just fan-f*ckin-tastic. if you haven't played it, boot up ZSNES and knock yourself out. if you want it, PM me i guess.

I'll just write a few (no particular order)

Half Life + mods + addons. (PC)
A superb game that was fun, required thought and kept me occupied for weeks. The free mods have made this game survive a long time.

    Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
Sneaking around by yourself in a nuclear weapons facility in the middle of nowhere heavily patroled by guards. What could be more fun ?

    Final Fantasy 7 (PS1)
Its the only FF game I have played but it was amazing. I enjoyed the fighting system.

    Sim Tower (PC)
I still play this. Building and managing your own skyscraper is great.

    The Sims (PC)
    I'm a control freak Muhahaha!

    Paperboy II (Nintendo I think)
You can throw a news paper at a fat guy and make him fall into his pool

    Flight Sim 2002 (PC)
It's fun being able to actually make a 747-400 take off from my local airport (it's miniscule!)

I can't rank them, but I'll definitely give you my top 5.

Half Life + mods: Loved the single-player (tram ride unforgettable). Then all these mods that have Fun Factors up the whazzoo.

Dark Forces + JK + Outcast: I'm a Star Wars fan, so naturally these games were a god-send for me.

Roller Coaster Tycoon + Expansions: Dream come true. I always believed the object of the game was to make people puke.

Goldeneye: PARTY GAME!!!!!!111ONEONE. Top N64 game (along with SM64 and Zelda).

Donkey Kong Country: Rare ruled the roast. First Super Nintendo game, fell in love with everything else in line. And they said kiddy games sucked...ha!

    1: Half-Life
-this, of course, needs no explaining

    2: Deus Ex
-One of the greatest, free-ranging games I've ever played. I've played through it multiple times, each time doing
    every section a different way.

    3: HALO
-The only true worthwhile game on the Xbox to date. This game, after all, is the entire reason I cought a, XBox.

4: The Myth Series....except Myth III
-Call me a Bungie fanboy all you like but this game was incredible. it was a refreshing look at the real-time strategy genre
    in general.

    5: The Diablo Series
-A great, great RPG that I never get tired of playing. Except lately .

    6: Duke Nukem
-I enjoy pretty much all of them immensely. Who Doesn't like Duke?

    7: Freedom Force!
-A great engrossing suparhero game with much replayability and camp. An excellent choice of game when one is bored.

8: Dark Forces II - Jedi Knight
-Some of the most online fun I've ever had. period. Especially that ultra-cool Purgatory map. Does anyone else
    even remember this?

    And uhhh.....that's it.
