<div class="IPBDescription">How do you make a good layout?</div> I have a great idea for a map, I already planned most of the important rooms. When I sit down and try to plan the layout I don't know what to do. Can you give me some general guidelines?

    Here's a good place to start - <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/Mapping_Guidelines.html#Style_Guide' target='_blank'>NS Mapping Guidelines Style Guide</a>

I'm not sure it's been completely updated for 2.0 but it should give you a pretty good starting point <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You should think about how all the corridors go around the map and how they connect to rooms.
If you plan the layout at paper add some ideas next to rooms like "Hive room, infestation broken stuff etc."
When you have the layout on paper think about the hallways again are they too long, do you need more rooms or vents etc. Don´t make the map just the way it is on the paper, it´s almost impossible anyway.
If you notice some bad stuff on the layout and you are already mapping try to solve the problem adding more hallways or removing some useless rooms.

That is really helpful, thanks. One more thing- What's the exact siege cannon range?

The exact siege cannon range is listed in my <a href='http://nsworld.ns-central.co.uk/mappingguide/MappingGuide.php#Siege%20Cannon%20FAQ' target='_blank'>Siege Cannon FAQ</a>, which is part of the Quick Start Guide.

Erm... you *could* check either the title of the document or the changelog to find it's meant for 2.0 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. I've asked Flayra to look it over and as far as I know all changes are accounted for.

They're already linked in this thread, but here's a link to the top of the document - <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/Mapping_Guidelines.html' target='_blank'>NS Mapping Guidelines</a>
