<div class="IPBDescription">A sort of a mild rant</div>right, www.gateway.com will let you log in with yer registration number on the side of the PC. it will then tell you everything that came with your PC. right now it says my pc is a PIII 600MHz. My DxDiag (go to run, type dxdiag) is running right now. what does it say? PIII 500MHz. Now someonebody is lying. There are three possiblities: Some genious in my household decided to "upgrade" from a 600MHz to a 500MHz, gateway sent me something worse then what i paid for, or DxDiag is lying. hrrm. seems a certain company is doing some explaining tommorow. alot of explaining. grr.

I tied Dxdiag, and it reported everything correctly based on what I bought. And that is hy I don't buy from companioes whole computers, custom build = win <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Sorry if this sounds over l337 but the best way to go is either build piece by piece or upgrade one or two pieces at a time so u know what's in their, and u get the trickle down effect, gives enough spare parts to eventuly build another comp for some secondary function. (like something to view web sites keeping my sis off the good gaming comps)

yeah dxdiag is usually right, might wanna check in your bios if your cpu is set to the right speed......

heh... prebuilt computers are %100 crap, I guarantee you. They lure you in with big numbers, like "60 Gig, 1800 MHz, 256MB..." but the rest is crap. Like the motherboard. They would use the absolute cheapest mobo they can find, and cheapest RAM, and slowest HD...

The best way to do it would be to find a small company in your area that builds PC's. If they've been around a while, go talk to them, as them what they would recommend for a system, and get them to put it together for you. You will get all the details about what goes into the system, and won't get boned. You'll get better customer service, too.

If you have the knowledge, it's even better to put the parts together yourself. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

I'm a teenager. My computer is the family system. If I suddenly get the money somehow, I am DEFINETLY building my own. But, I only can get what works for the whole family, so I'm stuck with this. Feh. <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->yeah dxdiag is usually right, might wanna check in your bios if your cpu is set to the right speed......<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> This may be my ket to salvation! Uh, how do I do this? Hrmm, time to play around...

Um.. I dunno if you really want to do that, but you can try. Just so you know, you can seriously screw your machine by doing this.

Reboot your computer. Watch the screen carefully. It will say domething like: "Push <DEL> to enter setup." Push DEL. That should take you to your BIOS.

You can muck around in there all you like. I don't think that is the problem though. If your CPU was running at an improper speed, your PC wouldn't be able to boot.

The Motherboard could have been accidentally underclocked somehow. And the computer would still boot.

Parse-Error's right on, if hte machine was underclocked, it would bot just fine, overclocked... well,, thats a different story.
