<div class="IPBDescription">Update from the LAN!</div>w00t! QuakeCon!
Its goin good so far. There's a LAN w/ about 2000 people w/ computers in it, with a grand total of about 4000 people here. id, Raven, Splash Damage, Lionhead, and several other developers are here. Also here is nVidia, AMD, Via, MSI, and other vendors.
Free stuff is in excess this year, as within the first 4 hours I've already scored a DOOM 3 t-shirt, a special Quakecon MS Intellimouse Explorer, a little happy face stress ball from MSI, 2 bottles of Bawls, a spiffy nVidia cup, another little miniture AMD another tiny lap mouse from AMD.
For DOOM 3 MP, they're scheduling times and you only get to play once, which kinda sucks. My time is at 3:30PM Friday.
Today at 4PM is the first of the mod roundtables, so I'll be going to that for sure. Sometime later is the HardOCP workshop where they give away motherboards and stuff. Also AMD is giving away a CPU sometime later too.

QuakeCon is going great! Today I got more swag (a t-shirt from Linksys, A-Bit, and Shuttle), played some more games, etc. There was a few things I wanted to participate in but didn't get to, such as the second session of the mod roundtable, and also a contest sponsored by AMD to build a PC as fast as you can. I'm sure I coulda won it had I known about it. :/
Today was my scheduled day to play DOOM III deathmatch as well. The engine is pretty and the lighting is in full effect. It adds quite a lot to the multiplayer experience too (such as seeing the shadow of someone behind you). Unfortunately though, other than the prettiness of the new engine, the multiplayer gameplay is just the boring old vanilla Deathmatch we've all seen for the past 10 years. :( There's no doubt in my mind at all that HL2 is going to be multiplayer king, and odds are the DOOM III mod scene will be almost non-existant... :( (<a href='http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/doom3/DOOM+3+Multiplayer/1/081403' target='_blank'>2 DOOM III DM Screenshots on Shacknews</a>)
I don't have access to upload my pictures quite yet, so here's some links to tide you over:

Well, time to get back to gaming!
Have fun.
OK, folks, who h4xed DOOMs account?

HAHAH! What did I say? Oh yes, I said it was boring in General.
Other than that, today was okay. There was a HardOCP giveaway where they gave away literally hundreds of prizes, ranging from cpu heatsinks to motherboards to video cards. They even gave away a complete system to one lucky guy.
After that I headed to the 3rd mod roundtable and go to hear some valuable info about publishers and etc. I met a guy from Wizard Wars (HL mod coming out soon) and a few other guys. Afterwards I talked w/ a guy who is pushing his game to be published and told him a bit about my project (that I won't go into details about right now). Pretty useful info overall.
Oh and after the roundtable was over with I got to see a quick glimpse of Halo PC! Sluggo from Gamespy had it on his Laptop (legitly, not warezed, you nubs) and was playing a bit of SP. A few mod guys even got to go over to Gearbox this morning and playtest Halo PC, as it turns out Gearbox is about 15 minutes from the hotel...
Nem: I asked Rick Johnson about Ken, but he said he wasn't at Quakecon. Doh. He did however say they're very happy they hired him on and that he's added a lot and etc etc. :)
Well, its about time for Dinner, and after that its Mister Sinus Theatre, which is a live act a couple guys do that's like MST3000, except live. They did Britney Spear's Crossroads last year, and it was absolutely hilarious. This year they're doing The Terminator, and I can't wait to see what they come up with...
Later!

Speaking of which, I was going to make a pitch black level for Doom 3 in MP. It sounds like a stupid idea ("WTH.... that's just lazy and stupid"), but if you remember the old "Night Hunters" mod for Quake 2, you'll understand. The map will be based around stealth and stuff. Or whatever. Of course you'd have a flashlight, but turning it on would probably mean instant death. Also, if I actually make it a mod, I'll make one player be partially invisible and start with some powerful gun or something, and the rest have flashlights (and guns of course) and try to kill the guy, similar to Night Hunters. ^_^
These have been my fears all along but then again, this is Id Software. For the past 2-3 years i've not been able to play "vanilla" deathmatch through fear of death from boredom, it needs something different, it needs a new twist, but sadly it would appear that they don't much care for multiplayer in doom3.
Lets just hope they do a good job with the single player.
Y'know, even now i'm thinking of not bothering getting DooM3, i hope Id don't screw it up. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Good news! I successfully removed all the virii from my system! Also, my friend Colquhoun got lucky as his D, and E partitions were not infected, so a format C: got rid of his virii problems too. He still has to reinstall all his software though...
Activitywise, not much else has happened... I watched the final match of RtCW, that was pretty cool. Then they had the award ceremony, but after that was the real show.
They had 2 comedy acts this year. The first was by the absolutely hilarious <a href='http://www.donmcmillan.com/' target='_blank'>Don McMillian</a>, Chipset Engineer turned standup comedian. His whole act is very tech oriented, and he got to pull out a few jokes for us that are normally over the heads of even the IT departments he performs for. Also making a return to Quakecon was the MST3K-style <a href='http://www.mrsinus.com/' target='_blank'>Mr. Sinus Theatre</a> (although I thought last year's bit was better than this year's).
Right now its 3AM and they made an announcement that people only have 10 hours left to grab all the porn off the network. :P
I'm wondering if they actually said that.
Errr.. Wizard Wars has been out for the Longest time.
I'm wondering if they actually said that. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yes, they did. :P
Well guys, I'm back from Quakecon! It was a blast! I'm still getting situated, and then later I'll upload all my pics (not here, to somewhere else) if anybody wants to see em!
