Reversed Stereo

<div class="IPBDescription">How'd that happen?</div> Well, I booted up NS today, and quickly realized my stereo was reversed. I checked my headphones, yes, they were oriented properly. To make sure the reverse stereo was restricted to NS, I booted up TFC, where stereo was normal.

What the fruit? My NS sound was fine yesterday, and I havent changed any settings... Could it have been a power drunk admin using admin_execclient? Possibly, but how to I fix the issue?

Hmm, That seems to have done the trick, although I will have to re-set my binds.

I used the search feature in this forum several times, and this issue has come up for several different people, in several different posts, hoever none of those posts was adressed.

mmkay, so it was something in your config, /me will look around for what it is <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    make sure you have these:
    cl_centerentityid "0"

ok, well that was the only one I could find that I didn't know what it did and it looked like it might do it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

so, post up your old config.cfg (now config.bak) for us to look at <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

also, rebinding everything is REALY simple

just cut and pate LARGE swaths of stuff from old to new <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (just open them both up in note pad, have one next to the othere and tadah)

    Sigh.
After removing my old config.cfg, I decided to try to find the cvar that was causing the problem. I successfully resurrected the problem, but then suddenly it wouldnt go away, even after removing ALL the CFG files. Eventually I simply vaporised NS, and reinstalled. That fixed it. Im off to test cl_centerentityid.

    well, its not cl_centerentityid.

Whatever it is, it is surprisingly elusive. Before vaporizing my old NS, I put both the functioning cfg and the malfunctioning cfg (before I re-borked it) side to side, and compared all the cvars, the two were almost identical...

Gah. Theres a couple hours down the drain.
    Go Go MysteryCVar!

Argh! I had my fresh install, and it was working! And then I joined CoFR, and suddenly the sound was reversed again! Then without changing ANY settings, I made a LAN game, and the sound worked... This not cool, as it apparently isnt a cvar...

ok, now I would say look at hardware

first up find either a set of spkrs or a new set of headphones

Ok, I did a hardware test. I had my speakers plugged in, when the reverse stereo struck. The easiest way to confirm reverse stereo is to stand next to a Marine Resource tower, and listen. After confirming reverse stereo, I unplugged my speakers, and plugged in my headphones. The problem remained. Clearly, Its not the Headphones or speakers.

It may be my soundcard, an Aureal Vortex 2 (AU8830)
so, I will try using my motherboard Sound chip, a SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio.

Im not sure if this will work, as some other people in this forum have had the same problem with:
Turtle Beach Montego II sound card
    Hurricane Extreme Sound card

Currently there is only a workaround, which is simply to wear my Headphones backward, the problems this entails, are that a) Its uncomfortable, and b) My microphone is behind my head.

One idea is to phase this to the bug forums...

Well, switching to my motherboard sound seems to have negated the problem. When I was using my Aureal, I wasnt using either A3d or EAX, and that may have had something to do with it, but there certainly is an issue here, for the devs to look into.
