Texture Glitches

<div class="IPBDescription">The maps look horrible...</div> Ok I'm not entirely certain when this started but it was probably sometime while I was getting rid of a virus I caught.

Basically the textures on the maps look really... umm weird.

Its probably best if I show you... (see attached)

This problem also occurs with counter strike (and I assume, although I havn't tested it, othermods)

Anyway I've updated to the new nvidia drivers, and I've reinstalled Half Life and NS.

Heres my system specs

XFX Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti4200
XP 2000 athlon 1.666 GHz
768 meg DDR ram
ASUS A7N8X Motherboard
Im NS in openGl at 1024 * 768.
2 harddisks XP on D, Windows ME on C (I run XP all of the time, ME is just incase XP stops working, and hey I've got 2 hdd.).

Does this happen in Direct3D also?
  • Jabba_The_HuntJabba_The_Hunt Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11850Members
yes it does happen in directx aswell, but directx kills my frame rate with v2.0 (I dont understand why its made such a difference).

Yeah, I stick with OpenGL in HL also, have had problem with D3D.

Another question: is HL the only program that this happens to, or do other games have these texture problems too?

Right I dont play much else but Half Life mods, so I just installed hitman 2, and it seems to run ok, although some textures look disjointed which I think is just bad mapping.

I was thinking if killer_olie could post his system specs maybe we could see what is common, might help narrow the problem down.

Overclocking could be a cause, if you've been doing that. Otherwise, I'm pretty much out of guesses <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

At first, I couldn't believe it, but then I guess you can... That texture that your getting... that is called CS Blood (The name for the type of file). It is a "MOD", actually, it is a file that replaces your pldecal.wad file in your CS folder (If you play CS). This file would increase the amount of blood lost if a CT / T was hit. I was unaware however that those types of textures would appear in other Mods for HL, especially when you may not even have it. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea how you would have gotten those types of textures. But they are textures that are quite often seen for CS gamers in Germany (This type of blood is much more common to German gamers and very unknown to USA gamers). If you wanted to check it out, I'll try to post again with a link to the actual site you can get it from. This may be a glitch in the game, but like I said, I don't know how you would get those types of textures without downloading the pldecal.wad file for CS. Just thought you'd like to know you aren't the only one that have seen these textures (In the HL Mods).

I'm just going to bump this one more time in the hope that someone has a solution to this "CS Blood"

I know what the problem is. It is when the texture settings are "optimised" on nvidia cards. to fix this, goto guru3d.com and download riva tuner, then once in rivatuner, goto opengl settings, then the rendering quality tab, then below it will say "texture filtering preferences" and make sure it says "determine by opengl application and not aggressive or otherwise optimised. Once that is done, click apply, then ok then your done!

Ok i've done that but now NS doesnt run it just gets to the connecting to <ip> message and then stops, I've tried running UT2k3 and that works fine, might even look slightly better.

Im going to try uninstall of the program first, then uninstall reinstall of half life etc.

Any other solutions would be great.

Ok well if works but only seemingly after I press F lock (i've got a mircosoft multimedia keyboard) and esc repeatedly, I don't think thats whats really causing it some im going to test.

I just started having this same problem. Originally when I played it was fine. Then my motherboard blew so I had to get a new processer as well, but the video card was fine. I finally got it all working again and then this started happening in all of halflife.
