Including a High-res NS icon
I recently upgraded to windows XP, and while setting up my file system I found some lovely icons at www.foood.net. However, there were some missing, so I have toiled long and hard (hah!) on these new icons for various Half-Life related purposes. Feedback would be greatly appreciated, and suggestions for other icons which are not covered by foood.net.

oh sorry, yes I see. Some of them are just enlarged, they are still 16x16. Ok i will use then. I have to search for my hl folder a lot when installing new software/mods/CD etc. Now I will find it quicker.

Lovely! I'm using them now. Once again I praise your godlike mastery of Photoshop. Now, get cracking on that ham sandwich, lest I smite thee.

Here's some tips for if you've downloaded some icons & don't know what to do with them or how to change the existing icons of folders, drives, software etc.

    Shortcuts

Creating a shortcut to a folder, drive, software etc. is one of the easiest ways to change the icon. Create a shortcut, right click on it & go to Properties, make sure your on the Shortcut tab then select Change Icon & then browse to wherever you have the new icons on your PC. Select the one you want & click on OK, then OK again.

    Folders:

You can change most folder icons by right clicking on the one you want to change & clicking on Properties, go to the Customise tab then select Change Icon & then browse to wherever you have the new icons on your PC. Select the one you want & click on OK, then OK again.
To change any other folder that won't allow you to change it in the normal way you can use software like IconWorkshop, IconPackager or Microangelo.

    File Types:

To icon file types [e.g. wav, mp3, gif, jpg] you can do it in windows without using any other software. You can also do it with sofware. The advantage of using software in that you can save the changes you make as a theme.
To change file types in windows open a folder [any folder] & on the menu at the top select Tools, Folder Options & select the File Types tab. Select the file type you want to change [e.g. mp3] * click on Advanced then Change Icon. Then browse to wherever you have the new icons on your PC. Select the one you want & click on OK, then OK again.

Yea, but for some reason acrobat is the default reader for rmf files and when I can change the icon if it's set up to open in acrobat, but if I have it set up to open in hammer, it does not have the advanced button, instead it is replaces with a button that says restore.

What program do you use to save icon files?

Nice icons, btw. Definitely worth the ten minutes it took to install them.

Gimpy: Just click Restore, then go to Advanced and set the icon, and then re-associate the file with VHE.

Then it resets to the acrobat icon.

But there's no reason it should, since you change to the new icon AFTER you've clicked restore. Clicking Restore sets it back to Acrobat, then you change the icon to the new one, then you make it open in VHE. Actually, for me, changing the associated application doesn't even affect the icon.

Make sure you're actually looking at an RMF file, and not just the little picture in the Folder Options box?

Dunno, it worked for me. If it's not happening for you, maybe someone who knows more has some ideas.
