Best Buy is a good start. We do not tolerate 'War3z' posts, so no one post about how you like stealing and taking dinner off the tables of underpaid programmers.

There is a "Photoshop Elements" packkage, cheaper than the full version but still good... Look at Amazon for prices...

Go to the Adobe website, they would have a list of where to buy it and they have a thirty day trail version. The full version is quite pricey and only worth it if you are a graphic designer or if your parents/siblings have it for work.

i would definitely recommend getting the trial first, before you spend copius quantities of cash on something as complex as Photoshop, just so that you know what you're getting yourself into...

Yeah it takes alot of time and dedication to actually get good at the program, tutorials are a must. (I'm just starting to really get into the program. I'll have my first real sig soon <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->)

i dont think it is even possible to use all of the options of photoshop, from my experience it give a wide variety of tools for a wide variety of uses, basically something for everybody, i miself dont use nothing more than the brush and colors, and even that very rarely

Well, I think I can say that I've used _nearly_ every function once now... It's the combination that makes cool effects...

    Back on-topic:
<a href="http://www.gimp.org/" target="_blank">The Gimp</a> is a free program of that i heard it should be good (sentence?)...
    <a href="http://www.jasc.com/products/psp/" target="_blank">Jasc Paintshop Pro</a> has a free trial-version like PS(Photoshop) i think and is cheaper than PS.

Paintshop pro is like photoshop, but it isn't as powerful and just feels "cheap". It would be great for someone starting out though, I'm lucky my sister is a part time graphic designer. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

GIMP is an entirely differnt interface, but once you learn the differnt filters, it effectively IS photoshop.

Best part about it is that it's free and open source.

Paint Shop Pro is just as good as photoshop, i have them both. photoshop has lightly more power and a few more options but all the basics and almost all the advanced features are the same.

Yeah, you can do all the same stuff with paintshop. But the "feel" is completely different. I'm a hardcore photoshop fan though.

MonsE, personally I don't think Photoshop or things like that (3DSMax for example) are really to be considered evil war3z that take dinner off programmer's tables. Why? The products are sold for a LOT of money and are intended to be used for people looking to make money/a career in the graphics field.

Regularly people are not going to pay thousands of dollars so they can make themselves a signature, or apply a 3-word phrase to a picture to caption it.

Same with models - I know a bunch of people who use 3dsmax, and they certainly didn't shell out a couple hundred dollars for it.

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with using it for mods. Why? People make nothing from mods. Mods are voluntary, non-commercial. They're not doing anything wrong - Infact, from using 3dsmax they grow on it and soon it becomes something they actually WANT to purchase - So they can get into the graphics field.

Interesting note: On a study.. 90% of the people that use 'war3z' wouldn't have actually bought the product in the first place. As well, quite a lot of people that war3z products actually go to the store and buy them later on if they think the product is good enough and deserve the money.

It's almost an 'honour-based' advertising industry. Sometimes companies actually increase sales because people download their [full] product, enjoy it and go and purchase it - When normally they wouldn't have even heard of it, or wanted to test it first (With a full list of features, not half the trial sh!t they're pushing on you now)

Of course, there are always some people who wouldn't, but the companies wouldn't get any cash out of those cheap ######## anyway.

As you've guessed, I'm pro-war3z. I don't really do any of it, but I fully understand the reasoning for it and BOTH SIDES of the whole debate.

A lot of people seem to think the whole war3z scene is evil and full of nazis, but that's so wrong. :\

Well, we're talking the matured, older-aged people of the whole thing. When you get preteen or very young teenagers into it downloading things off of Kazaa and Direct Connect, that's a totally different story.

    I'm done.

I also recommend you to give a shot on the GIMP.
It's free, and it's only 7mb in size.
And it can practically do the same.

It's nice to know that open-source programs - like GIMP and OpenOffice (an open-source Office suite) - are appearing, lessening the need for war3z.

Yeah, open source is cool, I just wish an open source build of Linux could run windows games with the same performance of straight windows.

Short answer to your long post:

You obviously do not code. You are also a thief.

'I never would have bought this diamond ring for my wife because it was too expensive. Oh, because I stole it, the diamond merchant raised his prices on the other jewelry to make up his loss, and now I've screwed a bunch of people who paid extra for theirs? Oh well, nuts to them'.

Also, your stats have no basis in fact without showing us your citations. I don't just randomly believe numbers.
