Even though I donate money to the Democrats.

If I lived in California, I'd definately consider voting for him.

The liberal wing of the GOP are fine, its the other 99% I don't like.

Well, my parents like everything about him other than the whole homosexual marriage thing. He's actually a REALLY good business plan, and should do pretty good, getting us out of a humongous buget crisis.

And if he doesn't do it with their money, we'll just take his <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I don't even see why Davis is even still considered a democrat, he cut major funding to education, reduced worker benefits, raised taxes, advocated against the de-criminilzation of marijuna in the state, and overinflated the law enforcement budget (so now they can write an average of 30 thousand tickets a month in the San Frenando Valley, good job), sounds more like a conservative to me.

Not to mention he's a dirty theif and should be shot.

I'd be too young to remember, but I just looked up Ronald Regan on imdb.com, and I'm quite surprised by the amount of movies he's appeared in. When he became president, did his movie role play in any part to him becoming president?

Only other celebrity I know who went into politics was Jesse Ventura - how much of a role did his celebrity play in his political success?

Oh, and then there's Jerry Springer; except he started his show after finishing his term as mayor.

Everybody, let's start a new session of:

    <b>Extend your political vocabulary!</b>
    With our less-then-popular-but-he-can-ban-you-so-shut-up-and-clap moderator, <i>Nem</i>!

Welcome, welcome, thanks for the appl... Thank you, thanks, really, but time's short, so let's begin!

You see, talking about politics can be <i>fun</i>. It really can. And you already mastered the basic vocabs for this special kind of discurse:

<i>"Republican"</i> (also known as <i>"GOP"</i>), and <i>"Democrat"</i> (also known as <i>"Tree Hugging Hippy"</i>). Some of the more experienced of you might also know the words <i>"Nazi"</i>, which most of you attribute to anything right of the <i>"Republicans"</i>, and <i>"Communist"</i>, which you use for anything left of the <i>"Democrats"</i>.

Now, this is all very well and I'm sure you all feel very comfortable in these terms, but, and please don't be shocked by this, there's <i>more</i>! Yes!
There is, for example, words other than <i>"Communist"</i> for groups left of the <i>"Democrats"</i>. Take the <i>"Greens"</i> for example! Believe it or not, these people are left from the <i>"Democrats"</i> and nonetheless don't violate the <i>"Constitution"</i>! Likewise, there's names for groups right of the <i>"Republicans"</i>, indeed, even groups <i>between</i> <i>"Republicans"</i> and <i>"Democrats"</i>, such as the <i>"Libertarians"</i>!
    Incredible, isn't it?

But lo and behold, there's <i>more</i>!
There's words that can be used <i>together</i> with the terms we now know!
Take, for example <i>"corrupt"</i> and <i>"upright"</i>. Believe it or not, but you can use these two words with <i>any</i> of those we already learned! There's <i>"corrupt"</i> <i>"Republicans"</i>, <i>"Democrats"</i>, and even <i>"Greens"</i>, as there's <i>"upright"</i> <i>"Republicans"</i>, <i>"Democrats"</i>, or even <i>"Libertarians"</i>!

    Isn't that great?
Now, you can combine all these and even more words, and make your political discussions even <i>more</i> interesting!

And with this, thank you, and good night!

Nem at this point it's a little nieve to think a third party canditate can get any real position in an office. We would need about 80 years of campaign reform wrapped in a seperation of special interest groups from politics tortilla covered with anti-lobbying legislation sauce.....mmmm burritto.......lunch time.

This has nothing to do with chances for office, but simple political labelling. There can be corrupt Dems, there can be upright Reps, and incredible tho it might be, there can be politicans fitting not the category of GOP, Dems, far right, or Communists. Unfortunately, these are the only four labels I see around here.

Davis, for example, can be stupid and bought, and remain a Democrat.

Upright Republicans? Now I've heard it all...

As for people to the right of Republicans? Aren't they the militia people who go around blowing places up?

I support the Democratic Party because almost all of their beliefs are the same as my own.

In my heart I know I am a Libertarian, however, there isn't a hope in Hell of a Libertarian state for years and years, that is why I support the party that can put the country in the direction towards it.

Oh I know my post was in reference to the people who voted for him "because he's a democrat". I always held the belief the democrats and republicans are basically the same thing. a testiment to this is that our last 13 presidents have had upwards of 70% of their campaign paid for by special interest groups.

Anyhoo I can't vote for who I want in office because I'm 100% sure I'll get blacklisted for it, especially in this day and age.

There is some good sense in here and there is also complete ignorance.

I will offer only some direct links to U.S. National party websites in the hopes that some will learn:

As for my view on this?

Well, I havn't been legaly able to vote in any elections yet...

However the canidates I like the best tend to simply be the ones that I like thier promises/histories better

I liked Clinton (still do), I would have voted for Nader.
Personaly I don't care who ends up in office (that much), I meen, well they were elected so we gotta deal with it. (I despise guliani, I think Bloomberg is doing ok etc)

    As for Ahhnold:
His politics and history seem cool (the being rich as sin is a bonus in my mind, Bloomberg ran something like that also).
What (little) I have heard about the other canidates, sorta makes him look like the best choice as is.

And as for making fun of him? He does it himself all to often (intentionaly) for anything short of slander probably isn't gona bother the giant. (hell he was ussing catch lines from his movies in interviews about him running <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> gotta love that).

Ok, last one on politics, I admit this is a rather bad stance to take but I do it any way. I like it when politicians amuse me, I view it as a bonus. Clinton always was good for a laugh or 2 (his appearance on MTV etc). And I figgure that if all the things about Ahnold are true he will make a decent 'nuff politician, as well as being good for a few yuks every so often <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's funny that the *edit* mainstream *edit* liberals here in the States are actually pretty conservative by the standards European and most other world governments (ignoring those that are under military dictators or theocracies).

It was a proposition passed a couple years ago "in defense of marriage" or somesuch. The jist of it was that same-sex marriages performed in other states would not be recognized by the state of California as being valid. Prior to that initiative, the idea was that you could go get married to your same-sex partner in Hawaii, come back to California, and have all the legal benefits associated with marriage.

I thought it was a joke when I first heard about it (living in the very liberal Bay Area and not imagining people would vote for something that seemed so blatantly homophobic), but it passed by something like 80%. So if someone's running for governor and he has the cojones to say he didn't agree with that decision, well, I'll gladly give him my vote.

My personal opinion is that CA waits until the next gubernatorial election. While I strongly disagree with what Davis has done, staging an election on such a short schedule is bad mojo. And it will cost a lot more than CA can probably afford to waste at a time like this (I heard estimates of ~$60 million?).
