Cl_sidespeed 1000

<div class="IPBDescription">Intended or not?</div> For those that didn't know, doing "cl_sidespeed 1000" in the console restores strafing to full speed as it was in 1.04 without any negative side effect on your walk speed. This has become extremely common knowledge and it's passed around pretty much every time someone complains about the much slower 2.0 strafing(and, consequentially, "straighter" diagonal movement). Also, the value is reset to 400 every time the game starts up so you either have to put it in the autoexec or just keep typing it.

What I'd like to know is, is this or is it not intended? Was 2.0 actually supposed to include a strafe nerf and this is an exploit to get around it, or did 2.0 unintentionally drop the default value and doing this is just a fix? One way or another it really needs to be addressed and should be an easy server fix; either it should default to 1000 as it used to or it should be locked at 400 if that was the intention. The only time I recall seeing Flayra comment on this is when he said he doubted it would have any effect on movement speed...

    Hermm, when I first started playing v2.0 I did notice a considerable decrease in the running straif speed, but the straif on its own was the same. But now, without changing a thing I swear its gone back to NS v1.04 speed

    Dunno, I thought it was a nerf, and lived with it.

    Probably intentional, but who knows...

    I don't even use straifing as much to get close to marines, i use the walls and confuse them with the floppy skulk falling animations hehehe.

    I *heard* it was a typo.

    Here's a better one:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->alias +walk cl_forwardspeed 100
    alias -walk cl_forwardspeed 400

    bind <key> +walk<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    That makes a useful walk without making footsteps. I gotta say that the walk as it is now is pointless. You are better off walking while crouching. Or better yet this trick:

    Walk then switch to crouch, when ur crouch let go and switch to walk again, and repeat. Ever time you go to crouch you speed up for a second and then go into crouch, and then go back. Its quite effective.

    Just thought I'd mention these... Kinda interesting.

    It was NOT intentional. I made a thread a while back, and it never got locked. (Even though Flayra posted it in.) I had a different fix, but someone posted with that fix. Don't worry. This is legitimate.

    I heard from a veteran that it was unintentional. So I changed it back to 1000.

    Cool. Now that I can strafe twice as fast I'll never die again!!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
