Road Runner Problems?

Has anyone else had problems with their internet if you have the service provider Road Runner? Mine keeps getting worse and worse, and I'm tempted to replace the modem/move to another service. What should I do?

And please, no "Rado runnar scuks" stuff.

Actually, I think a lot of companies are just closing down servers, being that they don't need 100 extra servers right now. AOL has slowed down for me(aol DSL), it used to be 80-100, but now its 120-200.

Road Runner though, I've heard is pretty inconsistent. Maybe you should just switch ISPs. If you did in fact do that, it could be your modem or location.

are you using the 3 com "shark fin" modem? if so, you need to go get it switched to the flat white one with the "internet" button on it (im at work and cant remember the name, but its on their main site)

I'm using a Toshiba modem right now, so I should switch to the white one...could you get that name to me, or will my lazy self have to go looking for it?

It may be that your service is switching over to Comcast in your area. Comcast bought AT&T Roadrunner cable internet. So they may be having some switchovers in your area right now.

It cant be that sirus, not unless they have been switching for the past month. My service quality has been degrading ...in the past month.

I cant even play a game of Warcraft III online right now, and that dude made that really cool RPG that I need to play, your at your units eye level, and you use the arrow keys to control him...I got lost in the wilderness until I ran into a tree and got dissconnected. Stupid trees, they are just like walls for me in NS.

Is the tosheba the lowest quality of them all? :\ cuz the bottem one is exactally what I have.

its not the quality, its how long youve had it, and the one at the top seems to work the best in my area, might not be the same for you. But go get it switched, its free, just walk in with the old one and say you want another one. they will give it to you. the office closest to me is on Topanga Canyon north of Baja Fres (lassen?? might be nordoff)

I've had roadrunner for about 10 months or so, and still get massive slowdowns from time to time. To make matters worse, there's a (not-so-) nice 30k/s upstream cap from my ISP.

There also used to be frequent outages back when I was first a customer. It was annoying as hell, but there hasn't been an outage in a few months now. Guess they (finally) got off their collective overpaid butts and fixed the problem.

But aside from those occasional annoyances, the service is more than good enough for my home use. Downloads tend to peak at 120k/s, uploads peak at 30k/s. Still better than dialup!

Thanks, I'll do that, and get the top one. The white one...

Yeah, actually, I have Roadrunner, and compared to the rates download/upload that people share with me on IRC, it seems like I'm getting gypped bigtime here. I know they cap at 40k/s up around here, but when I hear people speaking of downloads going at 700k/s as opposed to mine at 150k/s if I'm lucky, I get a bit miffed.

Sadly, Roadrunner pretty much has the monopoly on highspeed internet here. There's one company offering DSL but their lines are pretty scarce as compared to Roadrunner's. There's also no other company offering cable service right now. So I guess I have to just put up with this crap.

On a brighter note, the tech support is excellent.

I've got RoadRunner and the Toshiba modem. A few weeks ago, I was getting some major problems with the cable going out, loosing connection, packet loss, etc. They discovered a lot of static in the line, came out to fix it, and I haven't had any problems since.

There is that new virus that's attacking servers... perhaps that's what it is?

Road Runner works fine for me. ABout a year or 2 ago, I had some major problems with it for about 3 months. They were combining their detroit servers, which I am off of, with their chicago servers, which according to them is one of their major back bones. Aside from being routed through chicago, I get very nice pings. Some are below 20. I'd just called them and say WTH?

EDIT: how come the f got changed to a H?

hmph ... wierd i luv my roadruner i peak at 2.0 mbits down and i forget my max up but i get good pings all over the place.
maybe its because im in kansas and nobody else is in kansas?
i bet its prolly because in your area roadrunner is popular, too popular it gets saturated easily (im asuming were on cable here, right?) and more and more people come on and clog the thing. just keep spamming tech supp and they should do something over here there braggin about how there only uson 10 of thhere 100 fiber lines to "accomodate future users" sooo just ask them nicely to open up about five or six (hundred) lines

Yes mage, but just keep in mind, these guys have a 'monopoly' on high speed, there is no reason that they should slow down. If anything, they should get off their rich lazy butts and buy some more servers. It seems at the moment that they care more about money than their customers.

I'm going to replace my modem soon, and I live in Ohio, quite close to ...Kansas I guess. I dont really remember, but I used to live there when I was little. Actually thats where we moved from to Ohio...kansas Missouri. I hated my neighbors there, not both just one of em, so I guess its neighbor. Anyways, to get off topic a bit, my cat jumped over the fence in our back yard (We owned three acres, that place was like a desert) and my neighbor sent his six dogs out after it and sprayed it with ice cold water -- in the middle of winter.

Anways, gonna get it replaced. Gotta go eat, cya all later.

Ohh holy crap I didnt realize they had roadrunner outside of Cali. I've had it for 2 years with zero problems I get 512 up and 2.0 down pretty much all the time. But our neighborhood did get a fresh new hub and lines, that might have something to do with it.

My download seems capped at 256kps, yet in every bandwidth benchmark I've run its said my max is 1.5MBps. Of course, it could just be the servers I download from restricting DLs to 256kps. Still better then my DSL.
• BlackMageBlackMage [citation needed] Join Date: 2003-06-18 Member: 17474Members, Constellation
i supposedly live near a hub ... then again sbc (dsl) says that too.
well in kc-k roadrunner is gettin popular and slowdowns are also quite popular ... sbc claims that their minimum dl speed is comparable with our average dl speed. heck, it cant hurt much, can it?
i would reccomend dsl if it dont cost too much, but try ou t the modem and spam tech-supp and customer care.

or is it customer's money care, eh? well tellem that theres a pretty good dsl provider around even if there isnt. half my friends got their rates lowered by mentioning that everest (tv, internet and phone provider) was available to them.

lol thats cool, I'll have to remember that. But let me ask you guys a few questions...

1.) My data light blinks two times a second on my toshiba modem. Thats a lot slower than the usual six or five. Sometimes it just stops for a couple seconds and starts going again, thats not right.

2.) I get "Warning_ConnectionProblem" when I lag out in servers quite often. My ping does not increase (Well not from what I see) and I always stop for a period of fifteen seconds or more. Ya, it sucks.

3.) I usually get kicked from battle.net quite often when I'm joining another persons game. I cant even host a game anymore, anyone that trys to download quits. This was not how it was a long time ago, because I used to be the main 'hoster' of my friends, I always hosted, always.

4.) Ive had my modem for about six months to a year, and I use a USB connection, not the cable. Does that have anything to do with it?

5.) I share this with my brother/dad all the time my brother and dad both get the cable connections, so I have to switch them out every so often, and reboot the modem, will that effect anything at all?

6.) How do I get that little bullet that looks like a filled in 'o.' Kinda like an overview of a cream filled doughnut. Really off topic, but its driving me crazy.

Thanks for your time, I gotta kick my cat -- shes waving her butt in my face.

heres a cool site clicky might help you out

ps I've never used USB, I think you should stick to your coax and Rj45 (network) cables

For the past few weeks my connection (with roadrunner) has been pretty bad. Ping is twice what it was (from 40-80 to 100-180). Plus i get these coool "let's drop UltimaGecko's connection every hour for 5 minutes" things going on. Get's annoying when you get dropped from servers spontaneously.

I get around 300-400kbps downloads (when servers support it), not sure about uploads though. Roadrunner does have decent tech support though...except their "We don't help you if you have a router" sorta thing going on...

Sort of unrelated but, why do AOL Broadband and Roadrunner exist? They're both Time Warner properties...and their cost is different...It baffles me.

In other news, I've forgotten the password to my router...err...yea....heh.
