<div class="IPBDescription">Quick run down of some useful tactics</div> Great topic so far. I've COMMed a few games over the weekend to varying degrees of success. While much of how the game plays depends on your team, and how well they interact withone another, it's a commanders job to give them waypoints and orders verbally as you go. A commander is many times more powerful if he has voice cabality. If your commander is relying on text to command, that will serverly limit his reflexes to a give situation.
Next up, res are more important than ever with 2.0. Now that aliens can rush ports and throw them up quick, marines must counter just as quickly. I usually set up one resource port right after 1 IP and 1 Armoury. At the 2nd port is where I fortify it with a few turrents. Doing this limits skulk entry into one side of your base, and at least gives you 2 ports for the time being. Next I have the team move to the furthest hive from the aliens. Lock down that and you've got 3 ports in just minutes.
At this point it's time for res ports and upgrades until your ready to take on a hive. By claiming double nodes a bit later in the game, you have a bit more punch to clear them out if they are taken. Then you can turn that site into a forward point base of sorts and use that as a possible cut off junction for alien movement. Doubles are great as mentioned before, but if you can't get them move on and continue to upgrade. You can always go back with a few heavies and clear it out later.
Observatories are great tools at base, but even better when you post them in other areas of the map. Throw one up in your hive to protect against cloaked lerks trying to take a hive. Then you can siege any structures that are near the hive without sending marines to their death.
One last bit, everyone loves their heavy armour and upgrades, but you must pace your development. I usually don't have my lab up until mid game, or a bit later. Many inexperienced coms want to rush upgrades, but if your useing res on upgrades, how are you expanding? Don't worry about the protolab until your team is decently upgraded else where, then go ahead and get Heavy armour to start whipping out the remaining hives. If you use those res early in the game, you all but lock yourself in your base as the aliens dig in through out the map.
Anyways, those are a few of my general tactics. Hope you guys find this advice helpful.
